Hi guys,
I'm asking so many questions here, I know... but I was wondering, what is this gross slime in my tank? I hear everyone talking about algae, and I have no idea what they're talking about. The slime grows on my tank ornaments, plastic plants, and tank walls. It's slippery, and when I wipe it off with a sponge it's kind of a greenish brown color. My goldies also love to eat it when I squeegee the walls... they suck in the little threads. Oh, and in my old Whisper E filter, the filter cartridge would always be slimy, dark green/brown, and smelly. Can anyone identify this?

woosh... for a moment I thgt you talking about the slime off your fish...
if they are greenish/brownish off your tank ornaments plus walls, green is definitely algae.. brown is part algae and part bacteria that can be harmful or not harmful... jus wipe them away or keep a algae eater like snail or pleco will help..

I think an algae eater would push the 10 gallon rule a little far... plus, it doesn't bother me too much. It's something I was just curious about. Now, I FINALLY know! Weeeeee!
Thank you for the help, fi5hkiller.

if u worry about the 10 gallon rule, then I can say, even one fish in 10 gallon will not be enough if your feeding habit is way too high or you hardly change water..

snail also another consideration!!

anyway, you are welcome..
