Your water fall is going to cascade off the fence? I don't understand, or I'm not picturing it.

As far as a pump, this pump is 10000 lph = 2,641 gph. I know we've talked about your pond you are building on another thread and you decided to make it two ponds, one now one later? What size is this first pond going to be?

I do not use a UV clarifier, but they are a good idea to keep the water clear. BUT I've heard that if you have a trickle tower you shouldn't need a UV. I do not know if this is true, but since the trickle tower would cost you maybe $20 to make I think it wouldn't hurt to try this first?

On filters, first a Trickle tower is a filter that you make. I've been reading Dr. Johnsons book on koi (he is THE koi doctor) and he says in the opening of his book to make your own filter. I guess he doesn't see any sense in paying for something that you can make for less than half the price. I agree. Of course I just bought an outrageous system, but after seeing the filtration system that someone that lives a couple hours from me made, I feel like I'd have come out ahead if I'd have done that.

Here are some links that will help you. Bookmark them you'll use them.
Roarks Experimental Puddle
You'll have to join Roarks to read the articles, these articles with help with making filters and other cool things for your pond. It's a good place for a lot of info.

Koivet on filters
This site has many articles on filtration, it also has articles on how to make your own filter. This is Dr. Johnsons site, he is awesome!

I hope I've helpd lead you in the right direction.

I don't remember the gallonage of your pond or the plumbing. So I will give it my best.
If your pond will get a lot of sun you should get a UV. They might not be needed on a FULLY mature system but I would highly suggest you get one. IMO The purpose of having a pond is too be able too enjoy your fish. That is kinda hard without a UV.
Even with a trickle filter you will in all likelihood get green water without a UV. I have been researching trickle filters for quite some time now and still do not know what I will be adding too my pond. When I do add it too my filtration this winter(which I will since properly designed TT's offer amazing filtration properties) I will let you know of the design.
If you decide too go with a TT it will cost you even if you do it yourself. The main cost will be the media you use in it. I just built one for my goldie tank as a test run and it cost me $50 too build one 24" high with a 4" diameter and I got some of the piping free. And that is on my 55 gallon tank.

sorry, i got too excited about building a pond
i should have use other thread but everything changes
my dad say not too to do the 2 pond thing
i lied when i said the tree was in the middle
in actual fact is closer to the contained wall
so what we're done is just put the liner above and around the tree
and filled the gap b/w tree and wall with dirt( maybe well grow something in there)
now ill try to go back and fill you in on what ive done so far
firstly, i managed to remove some more dirt wink.gif
ive also put metal sheet to stop soil from sliding down
(since the suburb has large slope + digging up of soil
there is 1m of soil before you reach the fence- its hard to explain sorry i pormise to get a pic up but again i got to borrow the digital camera sad.gif )
then we used logs as post and buried them next to metal sheets so
that they dont move
because there is a lot of junk in the soil, we put one layer of plastic for safety
(you know the orange one people use in their soil)
and then added the liner on top
at this stage we only have one side in position
we place this long metal strip and screw it( with a drill) onto the metal sheet to hold it in place
we had to make sure that it has folds because the water will take the form of the
pond and stretch the pond
well im not too sure about what the waterfall will look
like but my dad got an idea
Scott
Yes, please get some pictures. It sounds like you are buiding retainer walls which is a good idea. Anyhow, if you can borrow the camera maybe we can come up with ideas as well to help you out?

Now I am completely confused. Hopefully you can post some pics so we can all get a better understanding of what is going on.
slipperylittlesucker
yes i will have to get some pictures soon
just another thing i dont understand
why does the pump litres/hr vary
they have two different speed? for direct sunlight and shade?
Scott
My pump has variable speeds. Just like a volume dial you can turn it up or down, this is so you can control your flow rate. If a slower speed gives you a good flow rate, with plenty of oxygen that would be what you'd use because your using less electricity. You can turn it up though if you'd like to enjoy a faster flow through the water fall.

slipperylittlesucker
alright thanks
jback to uv sterilisers and clarifiers
is it best to to get clarifiers? and what the difference?
they say that uv sterilisers low immunity of your fish
is there any truth in that?
