I know we all love pictures around here so I took some today. Since almost everyone is doing better I decided thin out the hospital tank. Here are the ones that were released this afternoon;

This little butterfly is two years old now. It was spawned in my pond and really is a fantastic looking fish. It has very large scales, I love the colors and pattern.

This Doitsu Yamabuki Ogon looks like a metal fish swimming in the pond. Way cool looking! He was 3" when I bought him, now 15". I bought all of my Yamabuki's at the same time, all were 3" and supposedly from the same litter. It's interesing how they all turned out different! The other two follow;

The middle fish is still in the hospital, it has a little red spot on the right side of his head. You can't see it in the picture it looks like a little ulcer. I wanted to doctor it and watch it before I gave him freedom (he is 15" the last is 13").

I bought a sanke and 2 kokaku together two years ago, all of them were between 11 and 12 inches.

this first one is now 16", this is the one I am planning on taking to the koi show in Boise. Do you all think it might be a winner?

This sanke is losing it's red!!!!!!!!! I am not to happy about it, but what can I do. If anyone has any ideas let me know before it all goes away (please smile.gif )

here is what it looked like when I brought it home

last is the other kohaku. This fish had a nice lightning bolt pattern (don't remember japanese for it), but now you can see where it's fading!

Scott
last but not least is Blue. This is my favorite fish, she was my first Japanese koi and I probably gave three times more than she was worth. I don't care!

Here is what she looked like when I brought her home at 11"

Here is what she looks like today, you can tell she has her motherly glow as she is very pregnant!

Her blue scales are the same color now as in the first picture, I'm not sure why but in the blue tub the blue isn't showing up on the pictures as well? She is now about 16" (she could be longer, I haven't messured her I am just guessing) long and notice she's added a little black around the end of her dorsal fin. She does this every winter, by mid summer the black will be gone and she'll only have the 3" wide, perfectly straight baby blue racing stripe down her back.

If anyone knows what kind of fish this is, I still do not know?????? Yes, she has scales and yes her blue scales are actually blue. I've looked at them close to make sure it wasn't just black underneath white. They are baby blue. She is not a kumonryu (if anyone was thinking this, they are doitsu, no scales).

Blue did not get to go back into the pond today. She has a very small ulcer on her chest. I am going to doctor it and see how it goes. I am sure she'll be fine, I just don't want to put her back in the big pond without being positive that she is in perfect health.

Scott,
Consider your sanke a future bekko and the kohaku a future shiro muji. That red will keep on fading.
Genetics would be the big factor but since you run a high Ph that could the reason.
Scott
Rob,

I'm thinking it is genetics as well. About the ph I am afraid to try and lower it. If the fish are healthy with it high I was told to leave it be. I bought the Sanke and all of my kohaku's from the same place. The guy claimed that they were from Japan but I suspect they were spawned in one of his ponds. He has beautiful fish. The problem is the red on all of them is fading. If I want some nice red's I'll have to spend more and order them.

Everyone in the pond ate today, they had a feeding frenzy! It was great to watch them. All fish are back in the pond except two.

Scott,
Even the best of the japanese can lose their beni (red). I have heard about grabbing the fish in your hands and bending them so that you can see just how deep the beni is. Never tried it yet.
Here is my new kohaku. Straight out of the bag after around 16 hours in shipping. The pattern will not be too everyones liking but the beni and shiro look great. At least IMO. I thinks its gonna be a biggun.

WOW! another good looking fish! Where did you get it from? Also, how many fish do you have now? Just curious.

The last two I just purchased from Genki too give me a total of 10 fish in 4,250 gallons. The fish range from 11" to 18" and after the winter I might get rid of the bekko, or is it shiro muji. I am ultimately aiming too keep only 7-8 of them in the pond. Hopefully in a few years I might be able too get one too 30 inches. HOPEFULLY!

I you click on the IMG button just above the box you type your message in (it's the second botton over) then paste your pic file in the box that comes up your picture will be shown on your post smile.gif

Or you can type [ IMG ] name of file here, has to be on the internet somewhere and include http:// then end with [ /IMG ] and remember you do not put spaces in the brackets, just the IMG.

Now Ice we expect many pics from you wink.gif
