Full Version: Leak In Concrete Pond

Hi all!

My father has a very nice concrete pond with koi at his place and the water level has been dropping about 6 inches. He tops it up and in a couple of days it goes down again. He built the pond 15 years ago and did not have any problems before. We suspect there is an invisible leak somewhere in the concrete. Are there any sealing products that you can recommend? Any ideas on how to repair it? Thanks!

2 ways of finding the leak.

1 is to let the water level drop until it won't drop no more. If it stops at a certain level, then the crack is on that water line on the side of the pond. Go in and find the crack.

2, drain the pond and look for backflow. The soil around the pond must be water logged by now so once the pond is empty the water from outside will start seeping in thru the crack back into the pond. U will find the crack where u find water seeping back into the empty pond.

Once u find the crack, u will need to do a patch on it. U could use fibreglass or you could hack into the concrete and put on something like hydroplug.

First find the crack... Then get some advice from your builder or hardware store on the available products that can do the job. I can't suggest product to you as I don't know the available products in your area.

Good luck.

I'd suggest also doing a search on the net for something to fix the leak. Usually (not always) you can get it cheaper this way. I do know that there is some stuff that you can fix a leak with without draining the water. I think I saw it at Van Ness Water Gardens. Their prices are generally high but if you go there and find what you'll need you can do a web search for that product and possibly find a better price.

Good luck with the pond. Bring PICTURES next time! biggrin.gif
