I find that the outlet from my HOT (hang on tank) power filter provides all the current I need (as well as filtering the water). Keep in mind you don't need alot of current with goldfish; in fact, I had to turn down the intensity of my filter outlet for my black moor's sake. What kind of filter are you using?

A powerhead is good for creating current and agitating the surface water.

What about getting a bubble wand or curtain instead of the stone. I have my pump attached to two of these and it looks neat in the background and the fish love to play in it.

B) I think anything over 300 gph should give plenty of flow in a 30 gallon. And again you really don't want beat up your Golds with to much power. You should have your tank turned over aleast 10 times per hour.

I use power head for under water current and a biowheel for top level current.. not forgetting air stone too.. some people use air curtain to surround the three walls of the tank..
