Is there anyone with success raising koi fry to adults?

Like to hear from you.

Yep, my husband did. First time luck, no less! lol.GIF It was last fall, the parents were around 2 ft, and produced around 500 eggs. He took the parents back out, and the eggs were left to hatch in a 650 gl pond, but the water level was reduced to 250 gl, around 10 inches of water. The pond was running on a filter, and my husband put a big sponge over the intake of the pump, so no fry would get sucked in. The water was very green (naturally from the Florida sun), so he didn't see the first days of the swimming fry, until they got a little bigger. They grew pretty good on the suspended algae in the water, and my husband fed them with baby brine shrimp and crumbled koi food. Over time some died, some he took out since they had deformed spines and such, and he grows out now around 90 not so little fish anymore. Some of them have reached 3 inches, which is good, considering that it was a fall hatch, and they grew even in a so called Florida winter. Spring hatches have a better advantage, they have a real growth spurt during summer.
How is your luck with koi fry?

i havent had any success
mainly because my kois are to small
im planning on breeding in the summer but that going to be some time
meanwhile ill be build a bigger pond

but i know someone who has breed koi
my parent friend just started breeding last year and they were
quiet successful also
they had thousands of eggs and the thing i like about koi fry is that
they grow so fast
there koi fry are already 3-4 inch while my goldfish fry are only
1-2 inches, 3 max.

I started off with thousands fancy fries. OMG! ohmy.gif
Then a week or two later, couple hundred Koi fries. Double OMG! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif
Now, lots of fries still alive! (Details in signature)
I would have more if I did not place a few hundreds in my pond. (Water temps might have been too cold).
If I had hatch brine shrimp to feed them early on. (Lots of them die from lack of food)
Thousand got suck up in my Jerry rigged- power filter. Oh well this is part of a learning process.

One thing I like to say I spent a lot with this fries, love watching them grow (wishing that they would grow a bit faster). Divided into many tanks.
The fries grew faster and bigger with a small tank with less fry, even though the water quality was not better high nitrate levels.
My 10 Gallon tanks have the biggest fries double or triple the size of some from the 29 gallon and 75 gallons with lots of fries.
The 10 Gal fries are all about the same size.
The 29 gal fries varies in size greatly.
So my conclusion is to rear a few fries in many small tanks rather then to house all of them in a bigger tank.

yes that is a good tip
fish grow faster because of less competition
and more space B)
