Since I have a new love with snails and got a few black, ivory and golden apple snails, I have had my nose in Aquabid.com and saw some very beautiful striped applesnails, as well as some purple ones.
Purple striped apple snailWhats the background with those? Are the colors staying, or do they change into the more common golden or black ones?
Do they get as big as all the other apple snails? (Not that I need any more pets, but its easier to sneak a snail in than a goldie

)

I am sure that they are the same as a 'regular' apple snail. I would say they would grow the same size, or a little smaller.
They also probably do keep their colours because apple snails seem to do that. All of mine are the same colour as when they were babies.

Wow nice colours we cant get these in the UK well not in my neck of the woods..I am coming over to the US in September and the frustrating thing is I wont be able to take your many varied snails you have over there back with me I have a feeling I could be in big trouble for that LOL...I have a friend on another forum and her snails could fill your hand.

Phoenixx! I can just imagine how hard it must be to explain to a customs agent why you are having your purse full with snails in all colors!

Oh, boy!

Tortoises!! Don't get me there! I have one, a Redfoot tortoise, but I would looove to get a Star tortoise (Thank goodness they are so darn cheep for 1200 $...NOT), or a Leopard tortoise! You need some sort of certificate in the UK when keeping a tortoise? Why is that?

I will explain..I once went into a pet shop on holiday and was tempted with a little herman for sale which was 150 quid..around 80 90 $..dead cheap but it had no papers with it , so I had to leave it there in the shop but I still think of it now..reason I had to leave it..the papers tell you that it was not shipped over here in dreadfull conditions and will die soon after purchase..or stolen , but reared by a registered breeder..we have tortoise assosiations over here who will not take you serious if you buy without papers and I feel its important to have back up such as this site and applesnail.net if things go wrong..some people in the UK dont mind if the tortoise is ilegal but I do.. I feel I would need the backup..and when I asked why Mr pet shop man why he didnt have documents for them he just said " ohh dont bother about that..just dont tell anyone" that rang alarm bells in my head..we dont have the weather to keep them happy and it would cost a lot to buy a vivarium and all the equipent needed to keep it alive..so I long for one still but until I can get the funding together to do it right I do without..oohh boy your pets sound awsome..I found a UK supplyer take a look at this and tell me how this compares to your prices..I think at the moment we are around 2 dollars to the pound..Linda

The prices seem about right, Linda, and I see Indian Stars are just as expensive in the UK than they are here....
I can understand why people want a certificate for their tortoise purchase. Most wild caught tortoises are very sensitive and parasite ridden, not to mention harder to handle, since they are not used to human contact. I wouldn't risk having a wild caught one either. Most reputable breeders here tell you if they are C.B. or W.C., and their word can be trusted, although no certificate is needed.
What I wouldn't trust is some seller on the side of the street or carnival, though....
