Id like a triangle tank for a corner. I have never seen any, just corner bowfront tanks which are no good since any curved bowfront tanks disort the view of my fish. The 44 gallon pentagon is the only one I have seen. No other sizes of pentagons, but I could have sworn there was a smaller one and possibily a larger one. also do triangle and octagon tanks exist? I know theres a 10, 14, 17?, 20, 27, 30?, 35, 44?, 60, etc hexagons.

I have seen pentagons in many sizes as well as the corner bowfront tanks. I do not know about the smaller bowfronts and the distortion there, but the larger ones have such a gentle curve that the distortion is non-existant. I have a 60 gallon corner bowfront as well as a 55 or so pentagon corner tank. I like the bowfront ever so much more - it is easier to clean and the fish do not get distorted in the corners - for there are none.

The hexes that get larger than the 44 seem to be made taller and not much wider. The 60-ish that I have seen has the same footprint as the 44. So much less surface area to a tank shape that already has some problems - not so good, I would think.

An octagon would be nightmare to clean - all those corners to collect algae! And it, also, would probably have surface area limitations.

A triangle tank - that sounds cool, but would probably lend itself to distortion difficulties, too.

There are custom tank designers in almost every city - there is a fellow here that will make a tank for me in any shape and size I want - and his work is competitively priced for any "AllGlass" tank of similar square footage of glass. You might try to find someone like that and ask for the tank you want.....

You have some unique ideas - I bet your tanks are really individually exciting to see! smile.gif

Daryl.....just out of curiousity....where in Illinois are you at?? I might have to track your custom tank builder down. If it helps any I live in Champaign-Urbana.

*My apologies....I know this is the wrong place to ask this question.

any tank with strait glass does not disort. I thought triangluar is great for my corner(s) I will need to check out the larger bowfronts, but im sure there may still be disortion, just much less. I dont know anyone locally that can make custom tanks, maybe ill try asking petstores? I think they can only change the height but nothing else since the frame and lid come in standard sizes. meaning I can just take an existing tank and ask for it to be taller. I already see enough existing sizes that please me anyway, such as a 30 extra high, 20 high, 150 high, 65 breeder, 30 cube, etc. I dont like hex tanks too much, all the corners make it harder to see my fish they get in the way. The pentagon tank has only 2 corners to deal with so its pretty tolerable. the middle and sides are large anyway.

44 gallons pentagon(5 sided) do those tanks come in other sizes? I may want a larger one, perhaps 60 to 100 gallon pentagon. so far I have 6 different tanks in mind for my apartment

for more info and my tank chart. I will be keeping tropical fish in my highest tanks since they like vertical space, goldies prefer long tanks

no one can answer that? does anyone even know of pentagon tanks other than the one pictured?

I have a 55 Gallon Hex. The footpring it about 31 inches. I got it at one of the small local fish stores. The other 55's I looked at the footprint was smaller and the tank taller which I did not much care for.

I ordered my last very large tank from an outfit called Ostrom Manufacturing. They actually do all there own building and will build any size you want. The prices are reasonable but still expensive, especially since you have to add on shipping. They are located in Ohio.

thanks for responding. I did see some services that will build any tank you want but the prices are at least 3 times what itll cost in petstores cause they have to make it individually. standard size tanks like 20 long, 29, 55, 125 and a few other common sizes are made by the millions by machines so the savings are passed to you. other sizes such as 20 extra high and many hexagons are made in much smaller amounts so they cost 50% or even double as much as the most common tanks. so pentagon tanks are not common at all? petstores dont even keep any pentagon tanks? any of you seen a 5-sided tank?
