TRUTHFULLY they are a pain in the butt, but I like doing them most of the time. I don't like cleaning the filter, and I don't like many things. But, hey you have to do it, so I pic the second one. But I LOVE FISH and I'd do anything for Princess, C, Paintbrush...

I love the first part, the gravel vac and water syphoning, I hate lugging back buckets of water heh. But to seem the spunky afterwards is good too.

I agree with you Susu! The first part is good but the bucket thing sucks! The only good thing about water changes is that the goldies get all spunky!

I enjoy interacting with my fish in any way. But the only thing about water changes is my fish try to get the stuff I'm sucking up. It's like. Watch it fishy, you could get yourself killed!

I like doing water changes and vacuuming but what I really like is the water testing, I feel so scientific!
I have a certain time that I do the water changes--early on Sunday morning and I record everything in a little book. I have two tanks with goldfish but soon will have one larger tank with all of them in it in my new studio.
I am putting the tank right next to a utility sink so changes will be easy with a python and Prime. I can't lift a bucket bigger than 2 gallons.

i detest it. i get scared in case the hose sucks them in because theyre so friendly. but it is cute when they nibble my hand!

I do water changes because it makes the water clean and i know that its good for my fish, and I have the time, so i like 'em because its like cleaning out your own home, it feels good after doing it.

I look forward to water changes.
They allow me to do something after work thats consrtuctive, When I do gravel vacs. and water chnages it gives me a chance to get really close to the water conditions and how the "ecosytem" of the tank is doing. I clean and examine the filters. In the tanks that have gravel I see if there is any uneaten food and if theres any gunk. (I dont have to worry about this in my bare-bottom tanks) Water Changes also allow me to get bond with my goldfish and see how there doing health wise and there behavior. I just love it when there playing and nipping at my hands and playing around with my fingers hoping they will find food somewhere
So yeah I like to do water changes.

im with spoon on this one. i dont look forward to them or anything but, there is a great sense of satisfaction that i get from knowing that my goldies/turtle/snake are set for another week. and like ali said, they are a great way to get to know whats going on in your tank at all times.

I do like doing it. I don't love it but I do like to see that tank sparkle and see the fish enjoy fresh water.
When I was younger I hated it. I even went Over a Year without cleaning it (i had 1 oranda 2 angel fish and a lionhead in it at the time). I'm sure it was God taking care of my fish cause I didn't. They all lived despite me. I like to think of how I've grown as a person and now I do enjoy it.

Man, I love you guys. I thought I was the only one who loved it. It's kind of like having an aquatic zen garden.

I'm with Josh123. It's pretty quick to get the water out but takes twice as long to put it back in.
I have 7 tanks and change the water twice weekly - in the 35g(x2) I do about 20%, in the 10g I do about 20%, in the 5g I do 30% and in the 3g(x2) I do about 30%. The only exception is my Betta tank, he is in a 5g all to himself so it doesn't get very dirty, I do about 30% weekly.
I find it a bit demanding to do twice weekly changes but the tank stays cleaner and in the long run it's less work.

i used to enjoy the whole process when i had a little 10 gallon but that excitement wore off about a month later...they werent hard b/c i had a 5 gal bucket and it was 10 gallons. but now with my 29 gal its 3 trips...however i love the first part when you put the vacuum in and all the stuff comes up i feel so powerful! like its my bazooka gun because its HUGE!

The neat-freak in me loves them. ThinkI would gravel vacuum daily if I had more time. Maybe that is sad!

i do it because i have too
pouring water in and then taking it out is not much fun
although it is a good excuse to spend more time with the fish
its one i often use along with ive got to clean the filter catridge
but i must admit the fish love it because they always swim straight
into the fresh water

I find I do most of the water changing on a sort of "Auto-pilot" mode, which gives me an hours free time on a Sunday to think about the next few days and what is going on in general. It's kind of like meditation.
Plus, since I got a python for the 75g tank, it's not backbreaking anymore!

hello....my name is keekee...and I am a water change-a-holic. My favorite part is syphoning. I get a rush looking into the bucket and seeing lots of poo floating around that I syphoned successfully.

I enjoy doing water changes as well, which makes me obviously a nuts person, since there are 12 or so tanks to take care of. Its gotten a lot easier with the python for draining and a powerhead on a garden hose for filling, but I better not wander off to do some other stuff and forget about the whole thing. Wouldn't be the first time that water magically appears on the floor!

The one thing that makes me chuckle every time is the goldies trying to get to that stuff that wanders up and out the python bell! Geez, you would think I don't feed them enough!

i enjoy water changes most of the time
my silly fish love swimming under the downpour of water from my buckets. If i am pouring too fast they get pushed into the gravel. It is quite annoying sometimes trying to avoid them because they always want to see what i'm doing and they love playing with anything that moves in their tank (aka siphon)
so i do enjoy doing the water changes, although it can be quite nerve racking sometimes

I like doing them, because I like to know that the tank is nice and clean, and looks great! B)

I think my hobby is changing water more than keeping goldfish..
