I don't know if I can withstand much longer, there is a gorgeous little Figure 8 puffer and a few spotted ones in a store nearby, and although I am planning on setting up a tank for one or two of them all by themselves, with the move going on right now I just don't have the time.
I wonder if one of them would be alright for a month or two in a planted 29 gl tropicals tank. The rest of the fish are albino mollies, sailfins, 3 dwarf gouramies, neon tetras, serpea? tetras..... huh.gif

If you really rally want to get them, i would
put lots and lots of hideing places for the otehr fish.
Puffers are extremly agressive fish. Are they dwarf puffers?
Kev

Oh, Kev, you are not the bearer of bad news! Its better to hear the truth now, then wondering why one fish after the other seem to be dying because the puffer causes them too much stress!
I don't know how big they are usually getting, but the little discription in the stores says "adult length 6-7 inches". Is that the dwarf variety?
I guess I can hold out a month or so until the little bugger gets his own tank, then. Better safe then sorry! Thanks!! 00001649.gif

Thanks for the link, Kev! I can just imagine it now - 2 puffers in a 75 gl tank with plants, rocks, slates, and sand!! And they being carnivores, they leave the plants alone! Hallelujah! lol.GIF
BTW, I like that DrsFostersmith choose koi on the top of their aquaria main page!!
Kev
druel.gif i think they are dwarf puffers, the ones they sell at mf lfs vary from 10inches to 2 feet, they have a 2 ft one in their display tank, its sooooooooooo gorgeous.... in with some wild caught severums druel.gif

The fish that are sold as "dwarf puffers" are REALLY tiny, they only get to be about an inch long I think, maybe two inches. I've seen them on web sites, but still haven't seen any in pet stores near me. They're pretty new to the hobby.
Kev
i woulda said that was a dwarf puffer, compared to its 2ft long counterparts. but a *true* dwarf puffer maxes out at 1inch

you know how everybody says that most cichlids are very aggressive and tuff? well, ive got a friend who tried to keep a dwarf puffer in a tank with them. let me tell you, the puffer made their lives a living heck! every one of the cichlids wound up with half eaten tails and fins. a few even wound up with little bit size holes in their sides. needless to say, he removed the puffer and the cichlids healed up real nice. it was somewhat amusing to know that a 1 inch fish could cause so much trouble for a bunch if 6 inch+ cichlids.

im glad that youve decided to wait until you can get them their own tank! smile.gif
