I just wanted to say thanks Ranchugirl, for inspiring me to build this. I most surely would not have, if I wouldnt have seen your post Spongefilter I was going to build it exactly like you did, but I couldnt find the sponges you were talking about. Anyway I'm in Petsmart looking around for inspiration and asked the girl if they had any long tube like sponges and she goes oh look in here our spare part section. I was like yall have a " spare part section" ? hehe never knew it was there, it was built into the cubbyhole desk thing, that the fish ppl use, where the bags and tags are. Eureka, 2, 6 inch long cylinder sponges with a hole right down the middle. I had a 12 inch tube already from an undergravel filter, got hubby to drill a bunch of holes in it. Shove both sponges down onto the tube (tight fit) and put a plastic cap on the bottom and the put my powerhead on top. VOILA!! Here she is smile.gif I am going to end up getting a more powerful powerhead, but in the meantime this is doing great. Thanks again girly!!

great job, susu! biggrin.gif

i think that youll find that your goldies will loooove the new filter sponge. once it starts to build up a bit of gunk on it, theyll begin to graze it for uneaten food and other edible bits. i use to have one and my comet allways picked at it for food.

anyway, sice youve got the ugf tub ran down into the sponges, you might be able to put some biofilter support media in it. stuff like ceramic rings, bioballs, carbon and the like make for a great additive. personally, i like matrix by seachem. in doing this, youll be creating a great place to colonize beneficial bacteria and in turn providing a better environment for your goldies (as if you havent already! rolleyes.gif ).

just a few tips! wav.gif
