Pond temp was 52 on Friday but with the warm temps we've had it was 62 this morning. That is what the water temp in the basement is so as long as ammonia, and all that are fine I'll be moving most of the fish this weekend. That should make them even happier than they are.

I got in my pond this past week - I was off all week. The tadpoles were nibbling on my legs rolleyes.gif

Sure, rub it in.

I took Friday off knowing that my mom and dad would be back from Florida with plants from their pond and those would need my attention. I spent all day re-potting. I just can't wait to get the fish into their "summer home".

Wish I could send you some - my edges are black with them. My daughter brought some in and put them in a little 5 gallon tank - I told her we would wake up to frogs on our heads one day.

We were getting gravel out of the creek the other day and found a little puddle of water almost dried up loaded with tadpoles - I am sure you can guess what we did. We started scooping them to put in the creek, the gravel had to wait.

My big koi is getting big enough to cause me problems - he already tore a plant out of it's pot

My bigger Koi destroyed every plant that I had in the tank with them this winter. I will be giving some of them away because they are just getting too big and will need a bigger home. I get very attached to my fish so it will be hard but I want them to have more room.

The pond is now up to 70. I was tempted to move the Koi out last night but I'd rather take my time and do it this weekend. I don't want to harm them by rushing. I check ammonia, nitrites and nitrates last night and all are wonderful. Only took about two weeks for pond to cycle. Not too bad.

Do you take it all apart, drain it and clean it out each spring?

In order not to have to cycle, could you just clean it with out draining the water....just a thought, I know it's been a long few weeks for you.

What I've been doing is I drain one side out, shop vac it and clean it then I run the other side through a filter and into the clean side. I then shop vac out that side. So technically 1/2 the water is cycled already (I would think). I also put some Pond Zyme in the 55 gallon bio filter which seems to speed up the cycling some.

These last few weeks have dragged for sure. I just can't believe how fast the pond temp came up with some nice weather.
