Full Version: Tank Setup?

I recently installed a bubble wand in the back of my tank. My two fish don't seem too fond of this new addition, although they do not seem to be stressed out or anything. I thought it would be a better idea to leave the air pump on all the time as to get better circulation to the water. However, I am new to this whole goldfish experience and may not notice the "bad" signs. What do you all think? Keep the pump on all the time or allow it to rest at times?

Thanks

Hi Ranchulover, and welcome to our board, first of all! Wwe seem to be fond of the same kind of goldfish here... biggrin.gif wav.gif
I have had goldies for over 5 years now, and hardly ever have the airpumps off. They run constantly day and night. There are brands out there which are a bit more noisy, and then some, like the Rena brand, that you dont hear at all, for many years to come. Its a thing of personal preference, I guess. If you would have your tank in the bedroom and a rather noisy pump, you might wonna turn it off at night to get some decent sleep. Otherwise, they are running all the time...

hello ranchulover,

if you have sufficient source of oxygenation (filters, etc.), you may turn your pump on/off anytime.

otherwise, it should be left on all the time.

enjoy. goldfanatic wub.gif

I would leave it on all the time. If it is noisy you could try wrapping a towel around it.

I bought this egg crate(sp) foam from a local landscaping and flower shop, Fruitbasket flower land if you every heard of it. I wrap that around my air pumps and duct tape it so it totaly surrounds the pump. I havent heard a noise out of them since i got them. and i have the older noisey ones.

BTW have you ever taken an air pump apart its rather an ingenious invention. its all done with electromagnets no motors or anything, same with power heads and filters.

I just recently found that out too!! One of my air pumps quit working and I thought maybe water got in and fried the motor and low and behold, there was no motor! ohmy.gif I was quite surprised, but fascinated by it.

Yah one of my air pumps did same thing fact its a real waste cause it was one of those double air pumps so one side works and the other deosent, the rubber thing had torn (, cause it had to work so hard pushing air into my bubble wall. I also had another pump bust same way. Both were connected to bubble walls (. I guess i will have to buy new ones. Are there any out there that you guys have tried on bubble walls that dont break. mine are old so the rubber got a little hard so that may be why there busting ohh and opnes with a stinkin longer than 2foot cord? that always anoyed me about air pumps.
