Hey,
Last year in the spring I found a chart on the internet that showed at what temps the koi should be feed at, like it said something like between 65 and 68 feed 3 times a week or something like that but I can't find it any more. Does anyone have something like that that they go by for feeding the koi in the spring before it gets warm?
Thanks

I don't feed my Koi once the water gets below 60 degrees. I feed them every morning when they are in the basement for the winter. In the summer I feed them a little in the am and a little bit at night

I bought a "koi feeding" pond thermometer few weeks back. In the back of the termometer it had a chart showing how many times you can feed.

Here is the listing (this is from my memory... so I maybe a bit off)

60 once a week.
65+ once a day
70+ twice a day
75+ 3-4 times a day
80+ don't feed

What I have read is very similar too what Mislam said. These are not my words but a direct copy from James Reilly who posts on another koi site.
"under 50 - no food
50-55, one to two times a week, but only when weather is good.
56-60, 2-3 times a week
60-63, once a day
64-66, twice a day
67-72, 3 times a day
73-78, three to four times a day
78-86, five to six times a day
87-89, once a day but only in the evening/ early morning
above 90, no food"

I would add too also check your forecast and see if you can predict any future changes in temp. If you are in the mid 60's and a strong cold front is coming it would be better too withhold food until things stabilize.

Rob, where have you been? I almost posted asking if anyone knew if things were alright. Good to have you back.

ive just noticed that the temp reading in my pond
is always below 60
its gonna get closer to 50 in winter
but im still feeding them 2-3 times unsure.gif
they still are very active so im not sure if i should
feed them less???
also what happens if temp. rises above 60 in day
and falls below 60 during night
what should the feeding be then?
thanks heaps( im just concern that one feeding or two wouldnt be enough,
it could be like this for over 6 months of the year)

SLS,
The best thing you can do is too reduce their feedings at those temps. By feeding them 2-3 times a day in water below 60 you are going too be asking for problems. Not only with your fish but also your filters responsibility too handle the waste they produce. Below 60 nothing is running in the optimal range and that is why you should reduce the feedings. Don't worry, they are not going too starve.
Scott,
Been busy. The relandscaping of the front yard, acting as a real estate agent for a friend for a week, and building my new DIY filter for the goldie tank.
On another note, I might be picking up two jumbo tosai bred by Ogata in the next couple of weeks. If it comes too fruition I will start a new thread. Either 2 shiro utsuris or 1 shiro and 1 kohaku. Keeping my fingers crossed.

your right jetman
i think the fish are slowing from today
i noticed that they are taking longer breath
each time not those short quick ones( only the goldies)
and also i have been cleaning the filter quiet often lately
the kois remained unchanged
ill just feed them once a day or less
thanks
