They are going to be priced differently in different areas, it depends on how far they have to ship them. Since you live in Canada I'm guessing you may live close to somewhere where there would be flat rocks? Possibly some that you could get a permit to get and then get so many? You should look into that because while I do not know how much those flat rocks are going to be if you bought them, I have a feeling they are going to be expensive. I got a permit to pick up flat rocks close to where I live, they are the same thing that the nursery sales, the permit was 10 dollars.

I'm with Scott on that one! The permit seems the way to go.If I recall, you were talking a pretty big pond, and buying these flat rocks would probably cost you a pretty big penny!

Check a local gravel pit. You could probably get a yard for a good price. That is where I got mine.

I am currently putting in a pond for my mom at her house and we went to a rock place to price rock and the price ranges were $250 to $300 a ton, and you can get about 70 to 80 square feet a ton. So, for instance, I needed about 50 square feet to edge the pond which would be roughly $200. These rocks though were from all over the country, my mom picked out four different color flagstone rock and each color is from a different area, Arizona, Georiga, South Dakota. So if you are trying to stay cheap there are probably some flat rocks in your area, check near rivers, in parks, or even if there is some kind of road construction where they had to dig into a hill, they might have dug some rock up that would work and they would probably not mind if you took what you need, just make sure it is not a sandstone if the rock is going to be wet.
