Once again...different filter this time biggrin.gif

Has anyone used any of the Hagen AquaClear Powerfilters before. My LFS has some good prices on them. I was looking at the 500.

I have one coupled with a bio-wheel filter - they do a very nice job of keeping my water clear. The only noise I hear is the water cascading down to the tank - I never hear the mechanism that moves the water.

Ashley, I have aquaclear on all my tanks, from a 200 up to a half a dozen 500s, and am very happy with those. Quiet, easy to clean, keep going even when you forget to clean them once in a while (I have had them running with no problem whatsoever, even after I forgot to clean one for 3 months!), and you can add extra media if you need to (I have a big piece of panty hose filled with crushed coral in almost all my filters for ph control).
I dont know about the prices in your area, but I was pretty shocked to find the prices in my area to be in the high 80s, while I could get a 500 online for $33 at DrsFosterSmith.com or Petsolutions! You get 3 filters and some for one priced in a store! Thud.gif
You also can get extension tubes easily if your intake tube does not go down all the way to the bottom of the tank....

I bought my aquaclears from BigAlsonline.com..... Their prices are so much lower than a lfs. A 200 is $13.99, 300- $19.99, 500 - $29.99. Happy shopping!

I have an AC300 on my 29G with 2 sponges and no other media(such as carbon) and have no complaints. I bought it from Bigalsonline.com. AquaClears pay for themselves in my opinion because you dont have to keep replacing expensive media..........just squeaze out the sponges in old tank water and use them over and over again. Theres also plenty of room for good bacteria in those 2 sponges as well as powerful water movement from the filter. I also have a TopFin40 on my 29 which i dont like as much because the media is built so that i HAVE to replace it because it clogs up after 5-6 weeks no matter how much i rinse it. That can get costly over time.

I have AquaClears on my tanks and second that they're a great filter.
I use 2 sponges in each plus carbon inserts (made with pantyhose and carbon).
They're quiet, efficient, easy to clean and the waterfall is cute:)

I have an Aquaclear 300 for my 29 gal. tank
I put the tank together about 4 months ago and have no problems with it.
If the water level isn't at the top, the waterfall has more "splash" when it hits the water. which is alittle too much movement in the water if you have a bubble wall too. but its just a preference. This is my second tank and my second Aquaclear.
I am very satisfied with the product.

Thanks everyone. That helped me make up my mind. I think I will be going with Aquaclear brand for my filters!
