My white clouds that I was given came with mouth fungus. I have tried salt, Jungle fungus (yellow meds), Jungle tablets (green), Maracyn....and nothing. Keep in mind that the treatments have been given to the fish for about two weeks each. I don't know what else to do because the previous owner kept treating them for something else and created this resistant fungus. I stopped treatment just yesterday because I couldn't bring myself to put them through more torture right now. They are quite energetic and never appear to have any problems other than a white hard spot on their bottom lips.

What you said is probably true - they have been treated so much that they have become resisitant to the meds.

I don't really know what other meds would do the trick. Maracynn I and II are pretty good meds, but if they cannot do it, then I don't know what can. Don't treat with anything for a week or so, granted the fishs health stays the same. Do a couple big water changes within that week or so. You want to keep the water extra clean when you're not treating so the fish do not get any infections. After the week or so try treating with both Maracyn I and II. Do one dose and see what the outcome is. This is what I would do since I do not know any other meds to try.

Usually I find that Fungus Eliminator is a good med when it comes to dropsy and fungus. Do you have carbon in your filter? If so, make sure it is out during treatment because it could be soaking up all the meds you are treating with if it is left in the filter.

Good luck and I hoope I helped a little! smile.gif

Athena, did you try swabbing the lip with medicine? I'm asking because I tryed it and I'm not sure if its recommeneded or not. I don't see why not so that's what I tryed. I think we have the same thing right? Columnaris, right?
Athena
Honestly, I don't even know at this point what it is. It appears to be mouth fungus but could also be columnaris. I have been using meds that would treat for both.

I'm almost certian its bacterial with the strings. Most of the stuff that treats columnaris treats fungus too. It is wierd, but thats why they call it "Mouth Fungus" even though Columnaris is bacterial. Weird, huh? Ranchugirl has written stuff on Columnaris to me and in her new medicine posts.

How do the fish seem to be doing so far?
