Please forgive this more general topic posted in the breeding section.
The Texas summer is soon approaching and I wanted to know how hot is too hot for goldfish? What would that water temperature be?
Even in complete shade, I am worried that my 150 gallon above ground tank may be heated by the air temperature which can reach 103 / 104 F. I am reluctant to burry the tank since I have small children.
Thanks Clay

Make sure you have you pond heavily planted, this will help shade the water and keep it cooler. I can't give you an exact temp - I just watch mine and if it has been above 100 degrees for a few days I shade it. Your pond is smaller than mine, so it will heat up quicker. I use to have a rabbit and I would freeze gallon jugs and put in his hutch for him. This could be done with the pond. I would only put in one and the fish can decide how cool they want to get by swimming closer to the jug or further away.

Great idea on the jug. I will keep the tank in the shade.
Thanks again, Clay

they say about 80 degrees is tops because then the oxygen can be converted better. great jug idea too. i used to float bags of cold water in the pond to keep it cool.
