I had this little upside down catfish and now he is gone. I can't find him at all. He just disappeared. He used to hide in this log I have in my tank. He's in a goldfish tank and did ok but now I can't find him. I never saw him dead or anything that looked like it might have been him. I looked on the floor and can't find him either. He was about an inch long so too big for my goldfish to eat still. He's the same size as my cory cats and they are still around. I swished out the log with water thinking he might have got stuck but didn't find him. I was going to take the log out but was afraid maybe he was still in there even though I don't think he is. Has this ever happened before?
Do upside downcatfish hop out or get eaten or what? Was it bad to keep him in the goldie tank? My corys do ok.

hmm, I had a cat fish before.. some cat fish are known to MIGRATE.. yes, they will jump out of their existing pond and wriggle all the way till they find another new pond..

that's what happened to my cat fish and it died in the process of migration.. for it was a HOT day and it got cooked on the hot pavement..

well, I dun know does upsidedown cat fish migrate.. but there is also possibility it is hidden as cat fish like to hide.. try shaking every ornament u have in the tank and check the log u took out.. if still not found, check the ground further away from the tank. not jus the ground around the tank for my cat fish was found dead OUTSIDE my house.. if still not found, stare at your goldfish.. maybe the guilty one will confess that he ate your cat fish.. sad.gif

by the way, cat fish is not a good mix with goldies.. catfish prefer to be alone and live better in muddy water.. they like tank with gravel/sand.. best if supplied with river mud where they can cloud the water and bury themselves under the gravel.. they are relatively strong and does not die so easily.. they are known to travel on ground for 8 hours while migrating.. of course during the 8 hours, it has to be raining, so their skin are kept damp and they can somehow rest in puddle before moving on.. but still, 8 hours is amzing.. smile.gif

I miss my catfish too. I think he must have died from lack of food and gotten eaten himself. I have looked and looked. He is not in any of the plants or logs. The only thing left I think could be possible is if he jumped out and landed in one of the filters and is living there. Have not yet checked there, but I don't see how he could have gotten in the filter as there is not much way to get into it since they both have covers. I have not found him anyplace on the floor though. He would definately die if he migrated on the floor here, unless he jumped into the filter. My guess is he died and the snails finished him off or something. I have 2 larger snails. The poor thing. I thought he was cute. I still have 2 corycatfish and they seem to be doing fine. I've had them 6 months or so I think and they seem happy albeit not quite as fat as they could be due to the fact that the goldfish are food hogs.

I found my catfish!!!!! One night when I'd just got home and was on the phone. I was staring at my fish tank and saw this little brown fish swim out of the log. It was him!!! He was alive! I don't know he could have hid that well but he's back. I had looked deep in that log and even took it out of the water and rinsed it out and stuff and no fish. I looked ALL over in the tanks and couldn't find him. He hid really well. I have since moved him to my other tank with only one goldie so he won't be so timid and maybe come out more to eat.

Wow, that was a long time before he makes another appearance again!! anyway, glad that you found him again.. smile.gif

bear in mind.. as catfish grow older, you will realise that they have an attitude.. sometime it is better to let them have a tank by itself.. and they can grow quite huge if well taken care of..

enjoy your catfish.. do show us some picts and update us with some news about it soon.. smile.gif

I have a raphael catfish who lived in a huge castle in one of the 30gal tanks. If I saw him twice during the year, that could be pushing it.They are masters at hiding! I don't know how many times that castle was pulled out to see if he was stuck or just dead, and I'd look, and he wouldn't be there!!! unsure.gif I finally took the castle out,and now he hides in the driftwood.I haven't seen him for a couple months or so,and every once in a while,I still get the urge to go looking and check on him! rolleyes.gif I have had him about 3 or so years,I have probably seen him 3 or 4 times if that.

wow, seeing him only 3-4 times over a period of 3 years? that fellow indeed hiding well or is there an underpassage that he can escape to go out playing without you knowing?? lol.GIF jus joking.. but I am impressed with his hiding skill...

Many people say that Raphaels hides for months. I couldnt understand why they could not see their Raphaels much, so I figure that there was something making the Raphaels hiding. All of mine, I see them every day and night with no problem. Striped Raphel are my favorite catfish.
