I now have green water. I had an algea bloom last week. Do you all think that Algea Fix would take care of the problem? I want to get rid of the green water before I put the fish in. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't think I can help you much there - that stuff is a pain. Maybe cover it with black plastic for a few days - unless you have other plants in it.....

Deb, I would be careful with putting any chemicals in the pond. Did you have green water last year as well? Maybe it would be time to invest in one of those UV's....? How big is the pond again (sorry, my brain has plenty of holes at this time of day biggrin.gif)?

In ponds with green water I dont think there not much you can do but to get a UV strelizer...Since the water has the beating sun and theres massive amounts of water that a cinditioner can not handle sad.gif

I would strongly advise for you not too put any chem. Made for remocing algea...Half of them destroy your cycle while the other Play with the Ph so much that it might kill you goldfish....So please dont mess with its too much of a risk thats not worth it right?

If you dont have the money on getting a UV do what Lachfa said cover the pond with somthing dark so the sun is not beaming on the water and should moderate up a bit i would think.

Or try some of those hay balls, geez, what are they called? Barley straw or something like that....I see them online at DrsFosterSmith.com, and its supposed to bind the algae particles. I think you have to exchange those balls every now and then, when their full capacity is reached. But I have never tried those myself.....smile.gif

Microbe Lift pl works great. It's natural micro-organism and they help age your pond as well. Takes awhile for them to kick in though, but it works.

Thanks everyone. The pond is approx. 800 gallons. I've never had green water before (string algea yes, but not green water). What happened was I had to fill the pond up slowly so that we didn't put dirt up (I'm on well water). In that time it got really warm and sunny for about 3 days and here comes the green water. I just got the pump and bio filter started on friday. It's going to take a while for the biofilter to get up and running. I have nothing that I can set over the top of it to darken it. Since the fish aren't in yet I figured the algea fix would be a good idea since they won't be going in for several weeks. The is no way that I can afford a UV Sterilizer. I did add some Pond Zyme like I do every year to help it cycle a bit faster. The green water is driving me crazy though.

Black Oranda, here is my pond last year:
