huh.gif i am helping my grandfather move and today i was cleaning out a small indoor pond that had 3 golfish. when i took them out of the pond and into a aquarium i noticed one of the goldfishes eyes were both very bloody but the clear membrain around the eye appears to be undamaged. i have done some research and pretty much come up with nothing, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Glowskull and welcome to the board. wav.gif

I have never come across a case of both eyes bloodied before, but I suspect it is probably physical trauma: the fish may either been attacked by other fish or banged its face hard on something in the pond.

Is the fish eating and swimming normally? Does it seem to be blind or can it see, and are the eyes protruding or misshapen in any way? Are there any other symptoms at all?

i just went back and the eyes seem to be swoolen. ans far as eyesight is concered it it appears to have reduced eye sight but not blind since it has reacted to diffrences in light(flashlight) but it dosent seem to react to any kind of movement thats not withing 2-3 feet of it. and as far as feeding goes it seems to just pick through the gravel for pieces of food. it is the smallest figh of the 3 the other two are nearly twice as big so bullying may be a cause but i just havent witnessed it yet.

If the membrane isn't broken purhaps they are broken blood vessels? If so I don't think there is much you can do but let them heal on their own, make sure the water quality is good. If they are swollen that is a cause of concern. Swollen eyes can be popeye which needs a popeye treatment, but I don't know that blood in the eyes is a symptom of popeye, I don't think it is but I would research it.

the bleeding has seemed to have stopped with only a small spot of blood still visable, and it now appears to be what u said, popeye. i have already gone out and bought fish drugs and plan to move it into the hospitel tank and begin giving it medication as soon as i am done typing this post.

thank you for the info
