Ok, well I treated with the first treatment of melafix this morning just for peace of mind because someone had made a thread about white things on their fish's wen and then dying after acting sluggish for a few days. I was out all day and when I came home checked on them. My black oranda was swimming around a little more like normal but my red cap is just sort of "swimming in place" and her dorsal fin is still slouched over. When I walked in the room she came to the front of the tank and I looked her over. Her "bruises" she had look better, but I notice her anus is red and it looks like more eggs coming out... I again took her out of the tank and gently handled her to get a better look. She didnt' fight me, I think she is used to this by now... I gently pressed the area around her anus and more white eggs came out, I think she might be having a hard time with passing the eggs or something sad.gif I put her back in the tank with some stress coat and she went back to swimming slowly or just floating. She isn't floating erratic like it's swim bladder or anything, but I'm so worried, what do I do? My black oranda isn't chasing her around or helping her pass the eggs like I read they are supposed to do? Please help! I'm really worried.

If the eggs aren't coming out on their own (or at least at a constant rate) I would actually 'squeeze' some out yourself every few hours. I think that would be a good move. You cannot help with the one's inside, but getting rid of the exces will help her I am sure. I would keep her in the tank though, and just reach in and squeeze. This is what I would do anyways. I have never had a similar problems (except with my squirrels I rehab.. sometimes their poop gets caught or whatever and you have to 'help' them so they don't get sick.) So, good luck with that. smile.gif I really don't know what else to tell you to do.

MelaFix is a good med, but it is a light med. For fungus and things like that, Maracyn I or II is really the way to go. If you don't notice and symptoms clearing up within, say, 2 days, I would go out and get some Maracyn. That med is really good and helpful. smile.gif

thanks! I'm not too worried about the fungus thing, not with my black oranda anyway, he seems better now. Just extremely worried about my one eyed baby sad.gif She has enough trouble as it is with only one eye! I'll try what you suggested though... hopefully it will help!

wav.gif Hi there just to ease your mind a bit about that post....the white was wen growth. The fish passed from tank cycling stress. sad.gif **if the white on your orandas wen becomes stringy after a 2-3 days and begins to disappear, it's wen growth. If it gets large and takes on a mold-like appearance...it's probally fungus. my oranda too has been going through this..and I was worried too, but it clears up within a few days, and wha-lah...you have new wen growth!!***

Agreeing with florissa, it sounds like your little gal has some compacted eggs. I too, would once in a while give her a gentle squeeze to aid in relieving any eggs that may be stuck. Keep us updated! wink.gif

Well after the first treatment my black oranda seemed better, so I dunno. I'm not going to put anymore in the tank now, I'm going to do a water change and put the carbon back in my filter. Hopefully with a water change and some coaxing my red cap will come out of this lazy floating thing she has been doing sad.gif

Thanks for the help guys!
