Do females chase each other or is it only males chasing females. I ask this question because the egg laying that just happened resulted in all unfertilized eggs. On top of that, my Ranchu that I believe is a Male looks fat around the middle like the female. Just wondering. I hope I'm not trying to mate a female with a female huh.gif

only males chase females
the male fertiliser the egg once they are laid
if you have females chasing females youve got problems ohmy.gif and unfertilised eggs

I should take pictures but my fish is too fast. He seems to have tubercles on his right fin, but he is unusually fat around the belly like the female but not exactly the same. But he is aggressive and chases her relentlessly. He is so aggressive that he chases her into the tank walls, ground or plants.

I'll keep on trying to take pics.

yes please show us the pics to confirm its a male
by what your saying he probably is male
that can be fat because its part of their breed
i dont know if this genrally true, but sometimes my fish get fat
just before a growth spurt begins
or it could be just part of their breed
to take your pic you might like to let someone feed him while you take the pic smile.gif

I agree. Only males will chase the female in this manner.
Perhaps the male is not mature enough to spray the eggs with milt.

I saw pictures of TUBERCLES and he definitely has them. He's just fat. LOL hehehe

What confuses me is that he is 4 inches already and I'm pretty sure he is over a year old.

Your probably right about being immature yet.

Thanks for all the responses.

are you sure that he is in the mood to mate?
my fish start breeding when they are 2-3 inches

He's chasing her pushing her into the walls, plants and floor. This as he nips at her rear end. As far as mood, maybe ... i guess. This is all new to me. Everything I know is just stuff from the boards, personal experience and books. huh.gif blink.gif

If by size, definitely because he is 4 inches now not including fins and she is roughly the 4 with fins.

If age, not really sure since I just got them. I did find eggs, after the first time the chasing behaviour happened, but they were all unfertilized. None of them hatched at all out of maybe 20 eggs I saved from them eating and from the filter.
slipperylittlesucker
there are always some unfertilised eggs when my goldfish breed
sometimes more sometimes less
they are usually quiet obvious to spot
but the fertilised ones are clear
are you sure you had a good look
near the plants, under the leaves of plant
is a good place to look lol.GIF
hope you can find some smile.gif

I'm hoping so too . . . I appreciate the quick and helpful responses. I will definitely know for sure in 3-5 more days wink.gif
