i just bought a chocolate oranda last night from a tank that all the chocolate orandas had torn up tails, but i assumed it wasnt anything life threatening so i bought this little guy anyways, with a couple white dots on his wen... but this morning one white dot has gotten larger and i was just wondering if anyone can tell if its just wen growth or something i should be concerned about?

(its hard to get pictures of him Lol hes found an ornament he likes and wont budge from behind it)

if im not mistaken, new wen growth can be, or is, a lighter shade than the rest of the wen. also, skin sloughing off ( or healing tissue) could also be lighter than the surrounding area. another thought is that his wen is clouding up a bit from the differences in water chemistry between the store and your house. i couldnt help but notice the white edges on his tailfin. thats tailrot. now that he is in uncrowded circumstances, the healing will begin. maybe his wen was affected by the same thing that affected his tail. unsure.gif

either way, just keep an eye on it and let us know if it gets much worse. also, as allways, keep your water params as pristine as possible.

hope this helps wav.gif

My fish Pudgie had that happen to her wen too when I brought her home. It was on a piece that jutted out a little bit and may have gotten beat up. It will heal, just keep an eye on it. Toothless is right about the finrot on the tail. I would monitor that closely for the next few days. If your tank parameters are good it will clear up on its own. Otherwise you may have to seperate and treat.

Goodluck!
