Jabberjaw
Greetings,

My pal Jabberjaw is really in a state. All his problems started with a new fish being introduced to the tank...my friends here have read about it.

He had twisted body shape symptoms about two weeks ago. Water then, as now, was good. I treated for six days with Maracyn2. He seemed to respond. On a tangential theory, I had read that twisted shape might be owing to Vitamin C deficiency. So, I started feeding them frozen bloodworms (thawed). I gave them a gumdrop of bloodworms every day -- they are meant to be quite high in nutrition.

Then, two-three days ago, he started having "balance" or floating problems. Last night he was plain floating upside down.

This morning he was in a twisted shape again, poor kid.

I have ordered medi-gold from the link koko posted. Placed a $63 order for various foods as a matter of fact.

What should I do. He is upside down and twisted. Seems frisky but obviously quite sick.

Thanks. JJ

Poor old Jabberjaw, he really has gotten himself into a state hasn't he! sad.gif

Well, the upside-down thing is definitely SBD, so I'd stop feeding for a couple of day and then try a pea or two. That should take care of that.

As for the twisting, that sounds like a fairly major internal bacterial infection (especially if the Maracyn 2 helped a bit) so yeah, the Medigold is going to be the very best treatment for that. Maracyn is excellent, but it doesn't get right inside at deep-rooted infections the way antibiotic food does; that's probably why it only had limited success.

Is the GF Connection speed-shipping your things to you? smile.gif
Jabberjaw
I dunno that they are "speed shipping" -- I didn't see that option. I am restarting Maracyn until that arrives.

Thanks.

Give them a call and ask them when you can expect delivery. Usually if you tell the GFC that your fish is sick and you need the meds fast, they will express-mail them to you. smile.gif

Remember to remove the Maracyn before you start with the Medigold, otherwise you risk OD'ing him on antibiotics. smile.gif I also wouldn't expect the Mara to do much, espeically as you've already run it once so the bacteria will have built up some resistance to it.
Jabberjaw
Thanks.

Well one day on and he is untwisted and floating the right way up!! I would be surprised if bacteria could become entirely resistant so quickly -- that would bode ill for the future of the human race. I think we may not have knocked it out is all. He's frisky as a hummingbird -- looks hungry, but no food yet.

I'll give them a 40% water change each day before their medicine. That may also contribute to the turnaround. I treated the new water with Stress Coat, which I think could have helped.

Thanks again.

Curious: what do those medals mean below everyone's -- ok many's -- posts? Successful fishy rescue missions? JJ
emmahj
Glad he's feeling better. smile.gif

This page explains what all the medals are for. biggrin.gif .
Jabberjaw
I see. It's curious what's we'll do for little strips of cloth and a small bit of metal (virtual in this case), isn't it? I'm a military officer and I can attest to this interesting phenomenon.

By way of diagnostic information, I might add that JJs excreta was long and white last night. I'm given to understand that's a strong indicator of a bacterial infection.

Thanks.

Very much so. The Medigold should clear it up within a couple of days however.

I used medigold recently to treat some very ill fish...one close to death due to bacterial infection. If in the mean time the fish looses it's appetite, don't be afraid to powder a medigold pellet and feed it mixed with water via a needless syringe. worked wonders on my fish!
