HI to all,
Im new to the breeding part of fish keeping.
I have 6 lg ,5in subunkins.In a 90 gal tank.How big do they get.
Can they breed at this size.Do you do the same thing to them as any other goldfish?Get the water down to 50 for one week? Can you tell the males from females? I have had a fish tank for many years. And I did spown baby angles at one time.years ago.Retired now and looking for something to do.

shubunkins can get very big. about 15 or so inches. if not more. they are more than capable of breeding at this size. they need about 15-20 gals each because of their size but other than that, no special treatment. if you lower the temperature to about 50-55 and then gradually rise it then it should trigger spawning, as long as it is lower than the original. there is a topic about this in the research forum i made just about that. heres the link:

triggering spawning

females have outy anuses and males have innys. also around breeding time the males will have small white dots on their gill plates and front fins on the first spine only.
