For those who have never witness goldfish spawning it's quite intriguing.

That was cool! I didn't know that was the behaviour when they're spawning. I just thought that my male did that to be annoying to the 2 girls! LOL

Yes, that's behaviour is what I've seen too. The male stimulates the female to lay her eggs by bumping her. Then he sprays his milt over them to fertilize. It only makes sense when you think about it.

Wow, that is really neat!

Not so great to watch after 10 of them have ganged up on the moma and almost killed her though (. Lost one of mine in the breeding ritual. She wedged herself between some rocks and the water level dropped when the pumped got clogged and she found herself out of water. Very sad. The other moma they make a mess of as well. I sometimes catch her and put her with the kois for a break.

I can't watch for some reason.I want to see.I'll have to go whatch my fish see if she's any different or the males wont leave her alone.

For those who have never witness it, will find it quite intreguing. The chasing action is more of a contant nudging from behind by the male. It's not like a territorial, chasing away an intruder kind of a thing. It's hard to describe. You'll have to see it for yourselves. There is no agression. Although they may make quite a stir, splashing at the surface and all. That's why all sharp object and ornaments should be removed from the tank during this time.

Thanks prologic77. Hilda, the female is about 3 1/2 years old and Hans is about 3 years old.
They are 5 1/2 inches head to tail.

OMG! My two fish started doing that the second they met. I have a goldfish and a Calico Fantail goldfish. They look really good together but started spawning the second they met. Hopefully my dad doesn't freak out.

Thank you very much for this video-- it helped me figure out what GEF was doing to my new fantail!

So we all made it safe and sound to Ottawa, I visited the Petsmart and picked up a new plant for GEF and Crumpet, and a couple of decorations. I just added them, and figured it was time to finally introduce Cuthbert to the main tank (after being in quarantine for 3 weeks) since things were changed around and there would be less chance of a territorial-thing. So in goes Cuthbert (who I bought at a fair size-- about the same size as GEF who is 3 years old) and not two minutes later, GEF has his snout rammed up Cuthbert's anal area, chasing her around like mad (Didn't know Cuthbert was female until this point--could never get a close enough look at her anal port to see for sure). I panicked a little-- I had never seen anything like this before, got the internet connection up and going, and logged on here to see what this new behaviour was all about. My little GEF's growing up! *sniff*

I've taken out my new decorations (way they were carrying on, someone was going to get hurt! Poor Crumpet's just kinda twiddling his thumbs trying to look the other way ) and hopefully they'll tire themselves out sooner or later.

Wow! That was so interesting to watch. My common does that to my calico fantail but I've never seen any eggs drop. I pretty sure my fantail is a female.

Do you have any fry yet? That is what my goldfish were doing and the next morning i found a strand of clear stuff so i took it out and apparently it is not fry becuase it has been 3 days and they have not hatched.

my common goldie keeps harassing my oranda that way.. he's such a perve.. i've taken him out of the tank twice and stuck him in a jail cell just to give her a rest... at first i thought it was cute... but when she starts to look exhausted and cant swim straight, it gets upsetting. very good video, though.. i know it'll help alotta people. i guess that's why most shops suggest getting 2 or 3 females for every male you buy... i wished i listened when i got my guppies... i lost 5 females to a bunch of males in heat. ... btw.. your fish are gorgeous.

Hi everyone especially koko i was wondering did my goldfish breed because when i woke up this morning my goldfish tank was white kind of and stuff like small eggs was stuck to the glass and plants so did they breed someone tell me please

Awww! That's so sweet! Spawning goldfish are always interesting to watch. BTW, I just noticed something completely off topic: you have the exact same tank background as me! Sorry, had to say that.

wow.Ive never seen this before. Its pretty amazing. Now ive got a 5 gallon tank with 2 goldies in there, and thy are 'spawning'. What do i do? Do i just leave them or what? How will i know when shes had her babies?

Canada Gold, 5 gallons arent good for even 1 goldie. Am I right? But Oooooohhhhhhhhh LLlaaaaaaaa MMMMMMmeeeeannnnn!

For anyone who checks this out,I just want to say that I have three of Han's and Hilda's babies. Of course,the biggest baby is now going at a strong 8 inches. I read back & saw that both Mommy & Daddy were about 5 1/2 inches! Here's their babies.

Oh thanks! I think so! Back then,there were a few different member's who received babies from Orandaman-from all over the country.(He was from Ca. I can't remember who they were,but I would love to see how their babies are growing too. I think I got those guys when they were 12 weeks old? Were still tiny little Brown things.

I wonder who else got babies from Orandaman - those guys sure have grown, Sharon! Maybe you can celebrate some sort or "reunion"...

Wow!! that video was very helpful. I have three goldies, Peaches my orange oranda, pudge my lionhead, and snowflake my white oranda ganging up on Spot my calico fantail (who I thought was a boy) chasing her around the tank, in her but swimming side by side haveing spot squooshed in the middle. The try to do that to red my red cap oranda but red out runs them and they leave her alone and they also try to do it to oreo my other calico fantail (she's the on in my avatar) but she justs pushes them out of the way. Seems like Spot is the favorite.

I fed them freeze-dried Krill last night and the temp. dropped 4 degrees and this is what I woke up to seeing. Funny to watch at first but maybe not for Spot. They won't leave her alone!

I have 2 Oranda's they are male & female and the female is a red cap and the male is orange and white with the white growth i have only had these 2 since monday of last week and today i have started to notice that they are getting ready to spawn the male is constantly chasing the female so I hope that they spawn really soon

When I was younger, Many years ago my comet 3 male and 1 large female. Chasing female all day 3 male brutal rape on female somehow female won't lay eggs. She was such idiot anyway she was badly wrecked lost all tails as 3 male nip his tails. I had seperate 3 male to other tank and let female rest near dying but survived long time to recover again and regrow tails. Year later they do it again, this female refuse lay eggs GRRRR !!!! I had her for 7 years she never lay eggs. ######. Later I change to 8 Redcap oranda in small tank it was bad timing anyway they did lay eggs but they eat eggs quickly. I'm unable to look after fish because of work and later I become illness retire goldfish 15 years ago. Now I'm back and keen start with Oranda and this time I'm prepare with 3 large tank and for breeds.

My favourite are Redcap Oranda and all kind of Oranda. I also interesting in Black Oranda.

I will have new tank next year...I hope...

no one can pm you yet you do not have 200 posts and from your other posts you don't have the room in your tank to make them spawn not to mention you need another tank to keep the fry in.

Good point, but I also just noticed that haz raver already has a topic on his fish's spawning behavior.

wow great clip.though its way too much late but cant wait to thank u.i have light female green(actually really dont understand da colour but it seem light green) and a male red and white fan tail in by breeding tank...they they r spawning like than..hihii but my male is bit aggresive though its small from the female lol...let see what comes out...
