I got a piece of driftwood from a pet store, and stupid me didn't realize that it was meant for a lizard, and didn't have a weight heavy enough to weigh it down. Well, I've now had this thing for a month, trying to figure out what to use. I've tried rocks, but even the biggest one I could possibly use wasn't heavy enough. I can imagine maybe using some sort of metal disk shaped thing, maybe an inch thick, with a whole in the middle to screw though. Anyone know where to find something of this description? Any other ideas (since I'm not sure my metal disk idea would work anyways)? How frustrating.

Try a nice piece of slate with a a few holes drilled through the middle and attach it too the wood with stainless steel screws.

Sounds perfect, but my only problem is I don't have a drill, nor any idea where to find slate. Any suggestions?
I don't know where to get slate, found mine at a yard sale, but I needed a masonry bit to drill though it without shattering it. I think the bit was $5 from Home Depot. Good luck!

You should always soak driftwood before placing it in your tank so that most of the tannins inside it are removed. Otherwise your water will turn a nasty brownish colour. I put mine in a bucket an dkep covering it with boiling water until the water ran clear. Once it's soaked properly you'll probably find that it will sink easily. Mine did.

Did you ever think about covering the pice of wood in a bit of rock that might work well. Or you can get a bunch of big rocks and put them on the wood and if the rocks are bigenough they will act as a hiding place for fish and give you're tank a cool look.

Many pieces of commercially available driftwood that are sold for lizards have been treated with chemicals to make them more impervious to bacteria. This chemical, from the family of formaldahyde I am told, is NOT what you want in your tank.
Did your wood have a label on it when you bought it? They are marked if this is the case. If not, as others have said, once it is soaked, boiled, etc. it it wll sink just fine.

Thanks for all the advice! I'll try soaking it for awhile, and hopefully then maybe the rock I have will be heavy enough. There was no tag on it, so I don't think it was treated with any chemicals. I'll also ask around for a drill, but I don't think I'm gonna find one too easily. Anyways, thanks again!

What I did also is drill holes into the stone, then attached suction cups to all four sides. The driftwood is super tight on the glass bottom.
