Well today i was in nooppee.....They were the only place with dalmation lyretail mollies.

Anyway 1 large guppy in a tank all to herself just didn't seem like enough fish lol.GIF ....So I decided to get her some friends purpban.gif

Here is what I got :
1 Silver molly lyretail male
1 orange molly lyretail female
1 dalmation molly lyretail female
1 male guppy....red and yellow w/ a small rounded tail ( I find that they wim better an are nipped less with smaller tails)
1 female guppy with a red and blue tail (already pregnant YES!!!!!)

Already in the tank:
1 GIANT guppe female. Larger than my mollies at the moment...her tail is sort of a green snakeskin pattern. AND at the moment my new male gupp is smaller than her tail fin.....I see why she has never suceeded in having babies before---SHE IS TOO BIG AND THE GUPPIES DON"T RECOGNIZE HER AS ANOTHER GUPPY! Also she is bigger than my platys in another tank blink.gif

Congrats on your new fish!!! What size tank do you have?

ps. If I were to add salt for the livebearers would it kill ghost shrimp?
Is salt ok for guppies?
Will these fish chow down on ghost shrimp?
FishFace
Oh...Also would salt kill live plants??

LOL I just went and told you all about salt in your other post. I guess you already knew that! Salt wont hurt ghost shrimp (they can actually live in saltwater) and low levels wont hurt most plants. Java fern actually does better with it. Guppies should be fine with it.

Just a note, thats a lot of fish to add to a tank at once!! Keep a close eye on your ammonia and nitrite levels to watch out for possible spikes.

Male guppies have long fanned out tails, and females have round tails. Are you sure the new red one is a male? The 100% sure way to tell is by looking at their anal fin. Females have a fan-shaped triangular fin, and the males have a very long thin one (same as with all livebearers). Also the best ratio of males to females is 3-4 female guppies to one male. smile.gif

As for the ghost shrimp your fish shouldnt be able to eat them as long as they arent too much bigger than them. Just a warning if you ever use medications in your tank be sure to remove the ghost shrimp. All invertebrates are very sensitive to medications.

sad.gif i hope they get better soon.

The round tailed one is a male.....I was sure to check before I got him. (accidentally got a female platy instead of a male once because I didn't check closly)

One of the mollies has died sad.gif. Overnight the silver male developed problems and died this afternoon at about 4:30.

On a good note the other 2 mollies resonded quite well to their salt bath and have perked up alot.

I don't think that the ammonia or nitrates spiked as that was originally a goldfish tank and I had only recently taken out the goldfish to make it tropical.

I plan to replace the male molly sometime soon...not too soon though, I should probably let the others settle in first.

Inhabitants of my tank as of NOW :

1 orange lyretail female molly
1 dalmation lyretail molly female
2 female guppies
1 male guppy
