Well a simple question,that i probly know .
what is a bog pond ? thanks tongue.gif

It is normally a section that just has plants. I have one that my filter feeds into every day. It is just plants that like a lot of water. It was my dad's idea to set it up last year since we drain my big filter a bit everyday.

I really like the idea of having bog ponds as part of a main pond's filtration system going. Plants are a big part of filtration, especially if you choose the right ones. Back in the 50s,60s and 70s when people had their goldfish tanks full with life plants and not all those fancy power filters we are so used to, most of them had just UGF going with those plants, and strangely enough they had so much more luck in keeping goldfish healthy. The plants were important in that kind of setup, and I believe they still are.
And besides, its always fun to have something blooming in your pond that the koi can not reach! smile.gif

Another question, how exacly is a bottom drain
in your pond is? when you say the drian do you mean it's just a
pipe in the grown and all the debris ect ect go in it?

Or is it a hole in the pond that all the leaves or debris go,and then
you don't need to go around the pond looking for them or what?

Thank you so mutch,i was planing to build a veggie filtration
system.People say that it makes the water crystal clear and is
a great filtration.
Can i maby keep the telescopes, black moors in there? biggrin.gif

My pump feeds my water up into a huge 55 gallon drum that is a biofilter. It filters through and then comes out at the top into two tubes which split one going over falls into the lower side and one going down a rock stream into the upper side. On the bottom of the drum I have a drain where I will drain approx. 10 gallons of water out per day taking all the slug that goes to the bottom plus water. This all feeds into the bog area. We aren't finished with the bog section yet but should be this year.

I use a pool skimmer to get leaves/sticks out before going to the bottom of the pond and I also have a hose vacuum to clean up anything that ends up on the bottom.

I've never had Telescopes or Black Moors in my pond. Just Koi and comets in one side and Oranda's, shubunkins, lionheads and Ryunkins in the other.

What would the purpose of the divider be?

For my pond I have the faster swimming and bigger fish (Comets, Koi) in one section and the fancy slower goldfish (Oranda's, Lionheads, Ryunkins, Ranchu) and the shubunkins (because they are still farely small) in the other section.

Debi0825 ,I think that i might do the exact same thing
like you did,the bigger and faster fish on one side, and the
otherk kinds on the other side.
Debi0825
It is a good idea. Koi, comets and shubunkins are so fast. If I put the fancies with them the fancies would never get any food beacuse the Koi are just pigs and the comets and shubunkins are just way too fast.

I have another question with bottom drains.
How do you build one more info would be so great i don't
even know what a bottom drain looks like blink.gif
