I have recently read on some sites that it is recommended to put some "aquarium salt" in the Betta's tank (1 tablespoon for 5 gallons).
I was wondering if you guys are doing it... I have several books on Bettas and the is not even a line talking about adding a little bit of that salt for freshwater fishes in the tank !!!
What do you think ?

Normal table salt is alright.I do it when
ever my fish have ick, fish lice or have fungus.
It will help them.

I dunno. I don't think you should add salt. My sister's betta lived fine without salt.

I heard that you should just do it when theyre sick. I think i also heard its good for ammonia, but that isn't really a problem with bettas.

Thanks for your help. I am not going to bother with it then. Clown is actually in perfect shape, and happy. I will get a box of this salt "in case" and to be prepared.
I was concerned about putting it in as Clown lives with a little catfish and a pleco, and I didn't know if that salt would be good for them.

Don't worry, I know that table salt wouldn't be good. I have bought a pack of salt for freshwater fishes through the net.
I will make further researches on that matter and apply what can be the best for them. I actually read on the box that this salt is good for cichlids too, and in general, all freshwater fishes. So I guess my pleco and catfish wouldn't be bothered by it.
But no...I would NEVER put table salt in my tank

If It can't hurt them, then go for it. Mabye It will perk him up, and if it doesn't then oh well dont use it anymore lol. But firt check like you said cause idk if it could harm bettas. They seem pretty fragile.

by the way, are you sure it is tablespoon?? that's too much...
teaspoon is more appropriate.. in fact I use a conffee stirrer that comes with a small spoon head.. and to justify the salt level, my tounge always work.. you know when it is too saltish.. practise till u know how much is enough.. that goes with cooking skill for some.. it is like adding salt to a pot of soup..

Ok, here is what the box says.
"1. General tonic and stress reducer : add one rounded tablespoon for each 5 gallons of aquarium water.
2. Tropical fish treatment or with a remedy : add one rounded tablespoon for each 5 gallons of aquarium water. Water temperature of 80F during treatment is recommended.
3. Goldfish bowls : add 1/2 teaspoonful per gallon of water."
It anyway states that it is for freshwater fishes that are sick, during stress, etc...
I guess when everything is allright, you don't need to mess with it.
