This may seem like a dumb question, but I have no idea how to get my pump to pull the water through? It turns on, is way quite which is cool, but it's not sucking the water in? Does anyone know how to get the stupid thing to work? I poured water in where the strainer basket is so there would be water in the pump.
I'm so relieved to have all the plumbing done, sorry I haven't taken pics yet of the bottom drain for those who've been waiting for them. I'll get some pictures up though. I've really been concerned for my poor fish and getting them back in the pond.
Any help on this pump issue would be appreciated. The pump did NOT come with directions for this key step.

All you should have to do is put it into the water and turn it on. (Mine won't work if out of the water. It saves the motor from burning out). Is there something obstructing the intake?

I should have said it's an external pump w/ two inch pipe coming from the pond to pump, to filter, back to pond.

Normally if you are able too fill the pump basket with water and it stays there it should run.
If the pump is higher than the water line of the pond you need too put a check valve on the pumps input so once you get prime you won't lose it.
And don't let it run without water.
Hope that helped.

Okay, it works! not sure what I did or what I did wrong in the begining but that pump has so much power it blew a hose out. reconnecting new hose now, actually I have someone else doing it because they said I did it wrong, so instead of arguing I asked if they'd do it.

water goes through, everything seems to be fine but now it shuts off on it's own after it runs for a few minutes. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorow to get it going. I'm going to call Colorado Koi and find out what the deal is. Hopefully it's operator error.

Got the pump going! It's way awesome. I'm getting more volume with this one pump doing the same thing as three. It is only using 2.3 amps to do it with, about the same electricity needed to run a light bulb (or is it two I was trying to figure it out today). How do I know how many amps, the computer keeps track of everything, that is included. I had been trying to run it on 6 amps, it is a 3 amp motor and that is why it kept shutting off. I just didn't know how to set it to get it right. This is so exciting! The only thing I don't like about this new set up is the pipe can be seen, but I'll put up with that knowing my pond water is going to be much healthier and cleaner for the fish, plus the electricity being saved will be huge.
Sorry again, no pictures. I hope tomorow I'll get off work in time to take some. Don't count on it though, it looks like it may be a long day at work. I'm glad I got off early today so I could get the pump going. Hopefully Wednesday will be another short day.
Oh, it would have been nice if the place I bought the pump from would have at least sent an instruction manual. The manufacturer faxed one to me today and it was a big book! Certainly there is some info in there worth having.
