Well for about a week we had Besty Daddio and Chicky in the breeding tank. We had done this once before with no problems. Yesterday morning Besty was sitting on the bottom so I scooped her up with the net and put her on the other side of the divider where I noticed she was ripped to shreds sad.gif I then put her in a bag so she could still be in the warm tank and still put some bettafix in her water. We went out for the night and when we came back there was fry in the nest! We didn't even think there was eggs! So I scooped Chicky out and put her back in her home. Checked on Besty and she was looking a lot better, swimming at the top instead of sitting at the bottom. I really thought she'd be ok but this morning she was gone cry3.gif I don't know who did it or whos fry they are but there is so many and Chicky never looked full of eggs that I think itmight be a bit of both females fry. What I think happened is either Betsy started to spawn with Daddio and Chicky came in or the other way around and Betsy got beat up. I feel so bad all three were fine up until yesterday morning(over night).

What I'm doing with Daddio is take him out tonight and the strong fry will hopfelluy make it. It's a better chance then leaving him in to eat them. There's many already swimming to the top by themselves!

DID you not watch them the whole time they were togther? You never leave a male and female alone like that even in breeding. I mean I breed betta's and when I see them hurting each other WAY to much I take her out..... I feel soory for you betta. but hey at least you have her babies.

Oh my....so sorry about your loss, and at least something good did come out of a bad situation. I'm newly addicted to bettas, and Ive been tryin to learn everything I can-but I thought that you never leave a pair alone together, let alone a second female. That kind of surprised me. Are there other people out there that do this too? I was wondering how easy breeding them would be,but I have to say that when I heard how much fighting may occur-it kind of scared me off.

Well I've heard different things about breeding and actually found LOTS of people who put in a second female and yes sometimes the male spawns both. I had two thirds of the tank covered with planets for them to hide in hense the reason I think it took a week to spawn the females staied hidden! I was keeping an eye on them but not 24/7 I mean the lights are out when I go to bed other then that somebody would check on them every hour or so normally.

However I don't think I'll try two females again even though others have good results. It worked once but the second time was not a good ending! I made a mistake cry2.gif
