I am pulling my hair out here. I have a completely cycled tank with great filtration, aeration, spotless water with perfect levels and yet I lost over half of my very young barbs for no apparent reason. The other ones look fine but I have a feeling they are not long for this world as well. The only one I feel will make it is the one that has no tail due to finrot. He seems to be the strongest of the bunch. I have him all treated and his tail is growing back. What would make perfectly fine looking and acting fish just start dieing? If they all go than I have had it with barbs and will start looking for something else for my twenty gallon tank. I had moved the barbs from the 10 gallon tank to this bigger cycled tank. So now I have an empty cycled (1 goldfish for now)10gallon and a soon to be empty 20 gallon. Any suggestions for both of these tanks. Goldfish are not an option since I already have 2 40s and 1 29 gallon tank of those and hubby will not have anymore even though I adore my goldfish.....Mollies, Platies or maybe Guppies????.......Gouramis would get to big, right?????.....Tetras to sensitive?????.....Danios??????.......Any suggestions are sooooo appreciated......

Well leave it to me to fall in love with a guppy . I went to Petsmart tonight and was just looking and there in the tank was the most unusual guppy I have ever seen....A very pale iridescent blue with pink shimmer on the scales. The prettiest part was his tail. Just the outer parts were iridescent with a black outline and inside there was no color at all. Totally transparent. SOOOOO looks like he made the decision for me. I also got a leopard spot yellow male and a dark metal blue male. I decided on a flame tailed female and a leopard tailed female. Now that takes care of the twenty gallon and from the sounds of it I may be able to wait and see if there are enough babies to fill the 10 eventually . I already have the breeding nets and everything.

there will be babies , i just got a few guppies about a month and a half ago. and actually they sound like the color you describe - my daughter says they look like angels, and i have about 30 babies now lol

So hubby should add "NEW TANK" to my Christmas list AGAIN this year! so much for a little hobby. I love my fish!

i mentioned another tank to my hubby - his eyes narrowed and he just looked at me....so I left before I could NO lol
