Hi all. If any of you have been keeping up with my recent posts you all know I have been cycling a 75 gallon to move all of my babies in....which will free open a spot in one of my other tanks(a 20g). You would also remember that the open spot I have been holding open was for a panda oranda which I brought home yesterday.
My 75gallon is not the problem......
The problem is with my 10 gallon holding tank that has been cycled now for months....it has nothing but a small amount of gravel at the bottom, and that's it. All levels have been at zero, and I still do regular weekly water changes. Well, I brought Mila(my new panda) home yesterday, floated her in the holding tank, and woke up this morning to find a bacteria bloom had happened in the tank over night(a.k.a. cloudy water) How could this happen on a long time cycle tank?? Anyone got any ideas?

hi hi
i would first do a check on your ammonia.
in a cycled tank, the balance is there for the currect situation. (yours was no fish)
by adding something to the cycle (your new fish) you throw off the balance.
cloudy water can be algea, yup
but i would first check your params, clousy water can also be ammonia.

Tooter's right. Going from no fish to a goldie adds a LOT of ammonia to the tank. They don't just poop it, they excrete it through their gills. It's just your bio-filter trying to catch up to the new load. As recommended, test your ammonia and do small partial water changes until the bio bugs catch up to their new demand.
