I got some fresh zucchini this morning--mostly for my Bushynose Pleco Spot. I can't feed him algae wafers because the 3 little pigs (Lucy, Ricky, and Mushupork) eat them before Spot gets a chance.

So I cut the zucchini into 2-inch sections, then quartered those sections. Then I zapped them in the microwave for 30 seconds to soften them. I also put a slice on a veggie clip in the tank.

Problem: the zucchini planks float. The goldies aren't interested in it and Spot can't get to it. What did I do wrong? ohmy.gif

Thanks,
Kristi

At PetsMart, I saw them take long wooden sticks and stick it through a couple of piece of zucchini. Then they had in stick in a piece of driftwood. I thought that was a smart way to feed them zucchini. Kind of like a fish kebabs.

i like the kebab idea - sounds so funny!!
anyway, what i do is steam the veg first- therefore the veg gains in weight, and it tends to sink without any help at all!!
i'm having same problems, my GF love the algae wafers also!!
i think you will find that if you steam the veg, your GF will also like it - mine love it - but imake sure that theres enough chunks to go around. plus it takes them a long time to eat it, and the goldfish spend as much time chasing it around the tank as they do eating it - whilst my plec is happy munching in his dark corner.
good luck

I peel the zucchini and it sinks right to the bottom of the tank. You could do the same with cucumber.......I'm not sure but could the lead in the weight leach into the tank water and be harmful to the fish?
