i tihnk you posted this in the wrong forum matey,

how many goldies do you have in your ten gallon ? no you dont need to play with the ph, but if his tail is going fringey, it could be a water quality issue, i would get your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate tested

Good luck with your fish. I never do any test stuff and I know i should but the kits are so exspensive! I think you will be fine as long as you have a filter and do 30% water changes every other week or so. Plus make sure you use a water conditioner like aquasafe for the water. Not sure about the cycle stuff you put in it. I don't think you need that. Espeically if you have the tank running fine for a year.

big fish deserve big space
i think its best to move him to a bigger tank
c'mon give it a try
the fringing tail could be a sign of stress or stunted growth
if you give him a bigger tank, he will grow even more
and probably a lot faster too

You should definitely be testing for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. If they are all fine then there certainly is no need to mess around with them - apart from your weekly water changes of course to remove nitrate - but if they aren't fine for some reason then you will have no way of knowing what is wrong. The water is the most basic of a fish's needs, and it must be right if they are to grow and thrive.

The fringed tail is actually a sign of finrot, which is usually caused by poor water quality. Test the water and let us know how it's looking. You may need to use salt and/or an antibiotic to cure the finrot.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

EDIT: I forgot to add that you don't need to use Cycle if your tank is functioning properly. smile.gif

Yeah I know how the kits are so expensive. Many petstores will test your water for free. That's what I would do.
