Hi ppls!

I bought two little bumblebee goby's and did some research, and found out they do better in brackish environment.

My LFS keep them in freshwater.

I also noticed they don't like flakes or pellets, and only like frozen bloodworms - and only eat them when i stir the water - so i guess they like 'em when they are moving'.

Does anyone out there keep these little fellas? If so, have you got any tips on keeping them smile.gif

Thanks!

We have bumble bee gobies at the pet store I work at. They are housed in a 40+ gallon tank with our redeye tetras. They are nifty little guys, that's for sure! My first day on the job, I thought half of them were dead because they were all laying on the gravel. I ran the net near them, and they zipped away from me! biggrin.gif

What I tell our customers is that they are a brackish fish but can also survive in a freshwater environment. We recommend raising the salinity of the freshwater tank a little since the gobies will be much happier that way.

They are wonderful and very beautiful creatures. They mostly cling to the gravel, sides of the tank, piping in the tank. Some of them 'buzz' about the tank, but they don't do it for very long.

They're tiny little guys and will really benefit when composed of a decent group of 5 or more.

Bumble bee gobies are carnivores and prefer the live, moving food. We have live black worms at our pet store that customers can buy by the spoonful. You should ask your local stores if they also have the small live feeder worms.

Koko - Thanks for the link, most appreciated smile.gif

Sapph' - Thanks for your info smile.gif My lfs sells live bloodworms by the bag for $3.00. Very cheap! but they look so umm, icky! The lfs said they must be rebagged every week with new (untreated) tap water, and must stay at the bottom of the fridge.

Is this right? How do you keep your live bloodworms, and how do you handle them when it comes to feeding time? And long do they live for in a bag in a fridge?

Could I also hatch baby brine shrimp and feed them that instead?

I have moved the bumblebee gobies into a 3 gallon heated FW tank as I thought they weren;'t eating in my community tank. I've got 10 danios with a couple of corys and golden algae eaters in the comm. tank, and boy oh boy, do they eat quickly!!!!! So hence moving them to a tank of their own.

There's two little caves and two fake plants in their tank. It's really annoying when the frozen bloodworms defrost and sink to the bottom and the bumblebee's "thumb" their nose at it!! grrrrrrrr!!

My lfs said they were feeding them flakes, but i tried that, and they eat em then spit it out, even more annoying!

For really cute fishies that sure are picky little buggers!!

Please help!! heh.gif

Thanks!!

We don't have live blood worms, but we have live black worms. They are in our feeder room in one of the tanks. Sure, they can be 'yucky' to mess with, but the gobies will love them. They'll probably like the brine shrimp as well. The brine shrimp will be tiny enough for them to grab and eat up.

Sapph',

What do you feed the brine shrimp and the blackworms at your shop?

Also do brine shrimp live in fresh or salt water?

i bought some live brine shrimp, and in three days, all of em died. i had kept them in the fridge as advised by the LFS. didn't even think of feeding them or changing their water!

(I thought blood and black worms were the same! heh tongue.gif )
