So far so good. I was able to give him some peas a while ago and he ate pretty well. I brought him home a couple new plants to give him some extra cover.

Talk about frustrating!!
I just caught him upside down after a big dart. He's upright now, but he seems really shaken up.
I tested the water params, everything's ok.

Well you've done everything that you could. When you figure out what went wrong then this won't happen again. You're a good fish parent!

When I left for work/class this morning he wasn't looking too good. He'll probably be gone by the time I get home.

I'm looking into UV systems for the future (if there is one) as a possible means to prevent bad bacteria.

He's definitely got sbd now, which isn't surprising due to the circumstances. His butt keeps floating and he seems really irratated at having to swim back down all the time. Water params are still ok. I hope that his condition is at least stabilizing.

Well if he has sbd than the best thing to do right now is to starve him for 3 days and then feed peas for 3 days. What a tough little guy.

Yah he's got his up and his downs right now. I feel bad because he gets really spooked when neighbors slam their doors. Or if I move something too close to the tank. His SBD seems to be doing a lot better, but I'm knocking on wood. He's definitely a tough little guy.

Well, it's been a couple days and he's still around. He seems to be doing a lot better, but he's still very nervous and scared of me. I've been able to feed him a little, which is good since I'll have to be gone during the weekend
I got a UV Sterilizer, but I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get it set up with my tank. I wouldn' t be able to run it until after the meds are done, anyway. I'm anxious to get carbon back in my filter, the water's getting a bit cloudy.
Thanks for all the help, hopefully he's on the path to good health now

I'm so glad that he's doing a little better. Hey he's your little survivor. My first little goldfish has survived being washed in dishsoap by a three-year-old:bath , staying in a 1/2 gallon holder for about 1 to 1&1/2 yrs, and then being overcrowded for about two years after that. Wow I was a bad fish parent but he's a little survivor. Now he's in a 40 gallon with two buddies. I'm sure your fish will make it. Look how far he's come!

For all appearances, he looks cured. I catch him swimming all over the tank, and sbd doesn't seem to be an issue (or at least a big one) anymore. He's scared of me, still, and he jumps and sudden moves or loud noises (which I can see why). I'm hoping that he warms up to me again since he used to love attention from me.
UPS sent my Jump Start food to the wrong city, so I have to wait until tomorrow to start feeding him that. <_<

I just noticed two round, off-colored spots on the side of his belly where his pectoral fins fold-up when he's gliding. They are too small to tell right now if they are ich or fungus or just missing scales. I'm guessing the later since he might have scraped against something when being scared or darting. I'll keep an eye on it and if I can't figure it out I might have to resort to catching him to look at it. I hope I don't have to resort to that since I'm trying to get him used to me so I don't stress him out!

Update!
Yesterday I got the UV Sterilizer working and this morning my water is clear. Now the bacterial bloom is gone and I'm feeding him jump start. He's doing much better. He's more active and he's always swimming around. He's still a bit jumpy, but not nearly as bad as he was before, and now that he's eating more he should learn to trust my hand again.
Thanks for the help!

I found a new friend for my ryukin (a small blue oranda) and he's perked up so much! He's spent hours today playing in the bubble wall. He's less jumpy and he's not acting scared at all!

I don't know why my post isn't showing in Discussion but anyways. A cool name for blue oranda would be Poseidon or as the Romans called him Neptune.
