Today I brought home a yellow mystery snail about the diameter of a quarter. He was active in the store, but he has been clamped shut ever since. He stayed shut in the plastic bag. And he has been clamped shut since I put him in the aquarium a couple of hours ago. He isn't dead--yet--because his trap door is still firmly shut.

Do snails sulk?

Should you quarantine snails? (I swished the snail around in some discarded tank water before I put him in the aquarium.)

I do not quarantine my snails and never have.

Snails get stressed out just like fish. Don't worry about him too much. He should be out of his shell by morning. Just keep an eye on him and see how he is. Let me know if he is back to normal tomorrow! smile.gif

She/He's burrowed into the gravel beneath a plant now, and apparently was all day.

But I did catch the snail sneaking back under the plant this morning at daybreak, so I feel better about it.

My little ramshorn is so active, and I can pick him up and move him without causing him to slow down much. I hope this apple snail comes out of his shell too, so to speak.

She/He is out again. I turned off the lights, and then went back in later with a flashlight.

So delicate. So pretty.

I do hope this isn't the only way I ever get to see my apple snail, but if it is, it's still worth it.

Today I hear she/he was out during the day for several hours (while I was at work, darn it!) and she/he is hidden away tonight.

Maybe this is a step away from being nocturnal? This weekend I will park myself in front of that tank with a good book and look up from time to time to see what happens when.

biggrin.gif that is great my snail usally is out while im at school
and when he comes back he goes in and then

I don't think snails are nocturnal.
