Here is what happens when your UV breaks and springtime hits florida. Not very pretty.
jetman73
I swear there are 8 fish in there.
jetman73
Here is a couple of them.

And what better way too spend a beautiful sunny springtime day. Test kits and a heineken.
Seriously folks,
I know that alot of ponds are coming into springtime now and there has been a few questions about what a UV does. I will have mine hooked up again by thursday and within a week the water will be crystal clear. Just something too think about for all of you considering buiding ponds or trying too clear an existing one.
They are worth their weight in gold.

Rob,it seems like you have a pond to clean
Good luck rofl3.gif

Geez, I think I saw a few shadows in the pea soup, Rob!! rofl3.gif I personally think that the green water is the more natural one to raise goldfish and koi, thats the main reason our two smaller ponds are without a UV. One has 3 months old koi babies in there, the other one small goldfish (not home raised). Of course, for a display pond, green is not the most desirable color ever invented! lol.GIF
Wonna see more pea soup? Come and get some....

Here is the 650 gl (not fully filled up) baby koi pond....Ain't that nice looking? rolleyes.gif

Rob,

Did you have to buy a new UV or was it easy to fix. I use microbe lift pl to keep mine clear. After I (if I ever) get my filter hooked up maybe that'll do it by itself (like i said that is what the guy who I bought it from claims).

Now Andrea that second pic is some GREEN water. While many people have talked about the benefits of green water make sure that kh is buffered or you will have huge PH swings. I have also read about the many things that green water can do for your fish including improving the skin on koi. It's just not for me.
Scott,
I sent it back too the manufacturer since it was under warranty. It turns out I installed the bulb incorrectly(for anyone that has an aquaultraviolet, make sure the lamp is plugged in ALL THE WAY) so I had too buy a new bulb and pay for shipping.
I have never used microbe lift so I have no comment. And you need too take a day off of work and get that filter going.

Rob, our kH is basically Zippo straight from the tap, so we have baking soda in there anyway. It was a pain in the neck to figure out what causes our low pH in the tanks and ponds, until I learned about kH....
slipperylittlesucker
wow that water is really green
how do you make it clear again?
or do you just wait until equilibrium is established?
Ranchugirl
SLS, I don't want it clear for now. Its the pond with the koi babies in it, and all kinds of live insects swirring around, including tons of mosquito larvae, some of them ending up biting me....lol.GIF That kind of environment is the best for fish babies, they can munch on the algae on the pond walls, eat the insects, and the green brings out the colors so much better. Clear is nice and all, but for babies i prefer the green....smile.gif
slipperylittlesucker
ohh i get it now wall.gif
i do that with my little goldfish sometimes
the old pond is sitting there with rainwater
theres so many mosquito larvae that
i just add a few fry in and usually
after a few days, theres none left
i get biten nearly every day(have a massive one behind my knee) because the mosquito stay around the pond as if to protect the larvae.
so how long can you leave them in pea soup biggrin.gif for
could they possible choke the fry?
