I've just boiled an egg and fed a bit of the white to my sweeties (they all love it, except one was being picky, kept spitting it out hehe....she loves it now though). Now I have a problem - how long can I keep them in the fridge for? Will it last longer in the freezer? I don't want them to eat food that's gone off, for sure.

to be fresh and still providing all necessary nutrition, best not freeze it and keep it refrigerated up to 3 days max...

but make sure it is well boiled and best remove yolk as uncooked yolk will contiminated while in fridge..

cheers

Thanks fi5hkiller! I probably will cut down on boiled eggs, it's hard to finish them all in 3 days smile.gif

when i feed my fish boiled egg
i usually feed my fish a bit and eat the rest
it works out well because i dont like the yolk too much yuma.gif

thats a good idea..

sharing food with your fishes.. smile.gif

well, I am not a fan of pellets but I certainly dun mind hard boiled egg
kat
hehe why didn't I think of that! I love boiled egg actually. I guess that day my hands had a bit of aquarium water, so I rather be safe and label that fish-food egg than eat weird things in the water blink.gif

oh, aquarium water is safe in your mouth.. unless your fish is infected in anyway...

I always smoke while cleaning up my tank.. so wet hand wet the cigi butt and I can even taste the salt (oh I like to add a bit of salt to stablise my tank frequently) when I bite on the cigi again.. hehe

and several times, while cleaning up filters and misc items from tank water (already dirty water), the water can turn dark brown with all the poop from filters.. and I may accidentally slip and drop something into the pail and SPLASH and guess what, the water went into my mouth!!!!

next you can see me spitting away.. I cant help but to imagine how much poop went into my mouth and the idea got worse when I look back into the pail and saw all the floating debris... YUCK... gross..

goldfishies like hard boiled egg yolk too?
fi5hkiller
GF eat almost anything edible coming in their way.. that includes egg yolk of course... but Yolk clouds your water.. badly.. dun try this at home..

lol.GIF

gotcha! thanks!!

could they eat the white part of the egg too or just the yolk ...and is there any drawbacks from feeding gf hardboiled eggs
fi5hkiller
egg has to be hard boiled.. really cooked.. not half boiled as it will thicken the tank water like how it is used to thicken soup..

Boil the egg.. remove shell.. remove yolk.. chop white egg into bite size.. that's it..

you may feed the yolk to fishes too... but in bite size.. and the setback about yolk is cloudy water.. yolk clouds water badly and if not cleaned, the water stinks badly.. but u may consider using yolk jus before you are about to go for a major 50 -70% water change.. but it is the protein we are drawing from the egg white that is helping the fish to grow.. thus we only want to feed white without yolk..

drawbacks??? no no.. if egg is not boiled or poached.. then it is bad for your fish.. are you going to feed your fish a sunnyside up or fried egg wit bacon?? lol.GIF the oil is going to kill them!!! so boiled egg or poached is good.. but hard boiled egg retains all protein better than poached.. and we only want the white....

BUT!!!! there is a use for the yolk.. if you have fry (baby fishes) they are best fed with boiled yolk... yes.. how can I forget.. haha

and yolk can also be used to breed sea monkeys too.. very good source of protein for fish too..

otherwise, yolk is a NO NO.. White is a YES YES..

hope it helps..

im not sure if aquarium water is safe
i think you should wash your hands after you've
touched the water
we dont know exactly what diseases are in there
ive had pond water in my mouth
and it is kinda gross( actually feel in once but thats another story)

as for the egg yolk
you should only feed very little amounts at a time
but dont mush up the egg yolk to fine, because its
just going to dirty the water
you should also remove any excess that the fish dont eat

Not sure, wish I could help more rolleyes.gif

I wouldn't keep the boiled egg more than 24 hours. I don't really know. If you're asking how long to keep it in the aquarium, until you seen signs of them no intrest in it anymore.

My sister and I recently have been feeding our water dragon (type of lizard.) boiled egg. She loves it and what comes out well, I wouldn't call it a delight to your nose that's for sure.
