Well, just to get my noggin warmed up, can you guys that have rubber/storage tub ponds send In pics of your ponds? so I can get and idea in my head on how its going to look like and how i should decorate it and all. rolleyes.gif

So If you can send in pics of you rubber ponds that would be great Thanx. biggrin.gif

(If you do send in pics, can you tell me the size of the tub......How many goldies are in there......What kind of goldfish.......and what kind of filtration do you have going on) Just tell me anything that might help me get an idea on what you think that would be important for me and others to know about your rubber ponds.

Thanx agian smile.gif

Ali, here is my outdoor setup....
Those are 160 gl tubs, which I picked up from AquaticEcosystems not too far away from me for 99$ a piece. They house some of my ranchu and orandas, each holds around 10 goldies so far.

Here is my bigger baby, the 300 gl rubbermaid container. This one was my first, but not my last. It comes with a hole on the bottom, where usually a heater goes, since this is a feeding trough, and the water shouldn't completely freeze during the winter. I installed a valve instead for easy drainage. It houses 4 of the new koi babies I bought at the Orlando show, plus the 15 inch comet. When the picture was taken, there were wonderful water hyacinth in the pond, which by now the koi have...yeah, you guessed it....eaten! rofl3.gif

The 160 gl tubs are filtered either by a small fishmate filter with an UV, or a homemade filter, made out of a rubbermaid container.
The 300 gl is run by a tetra green? filter, its a green round container, that houses bio material on the bottom, then a carbon mat and then a sponge to catch the big gunk. It comes with a neat airation system, so the water inside the filter gets aerated....smile.gif

There is a thread way back on this board of someone who used retaining bricks around their trough and it looked very nice. Hopefully someone will post a link.
I'm going too be setting up my own trough in the next few months for a QT for my new koi and will be building the filter myself. It is going too look godawful but it will be extremely functional for a QT.
Andrea,
What vendor did you get your fish from?

I have 3 100 gallon rubbermaid feeding troughs and another 40 gallon. Mine are very overstocked for the winter (and many of my fish are still on 1 to 2 inches). I have my Koi split between 2 of the 100 gallons. I then have all my comets in the smaller 40 gallon. Then my Oranda's, lionheads, Ryunkins and shubunkins are in 100 gallon by themselves. I'll try to get you pictures tonight when I get home.

Thank you Andrea biggrin.gif

Cant wait for those pics Debi smile.gif

Where did you get your filter from Andrea? And also cant I just use a power filter (aqua clear) if i wanted too or would that be good enough filtration? The rubermaid tubs are going to be more a rectangle than a circular so theres more surface area and more room (Length wide for them to swim).

If anyone else has pics Please do send the in!!!! lol.GIF

Ali, I usually buy fish supplies, at least the ones I can't make myself lol.GIF, from either BigAlsonline.com, Petsolutions.com or DrsFostersmith.com (formerly Petwarehouse). They all have more or less the same prices. The last order I did a few days ago, some items I didn't find at Petsolutions, some I couldn't find at DrsFostersmith, but BigAls had all of them, so this time the money went his way! smile.gif

Rob, we bought the koi, if I remember the guys company exactly, from EasternKoi...? He had his setup at the far left hand corner way in the back, next to the company who had that huge koi painting hanging over their tanks. We got 3 kohaku, 3 ginrin showa (geez, I hope I said that right) for 25$ a piece. They have been pretty shy while we fed them the food just dropping it on them , but since I soak it, so it sinks, and have it sink down out of my hand, they got the idea that the person with the hand means food, now they come out so much more when I pass by...happydance.gif

I actually was contemplating buying a fish from them and after I went back an hour later it was gone. They are actually called Eastern Nishikigoi and there website is www.enkoi.com. They sell some beauties. Do you have any pics?

I happened to see a casted tub pond in COSTCO that cost a little over $100. It is a little small but comes with a waterfall and pump. You may want to check that out. I guess you don't have to bury it to the ground.

Have a nice weekend!
