Full Version: Now That Things Are Stable
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Water problems? Questions about water quality?

Just a poll to get an idea of how long I should wait after I am sure my water is stable.
daryl
My problem with polls is the answers are never as simple as the given answers suggest.

Is the tank just barely stable or REALLY stable? How did you get it that way? How many new fish are you planning on introducing initially? How many are you aiming for? Is the tank large or small ?(large take a longer time to go sour on you), how big are the fish? How hardy are the fish - have you had them for a while and know there are no other problems to deal with? And, not to be crass, how valuable are the fish?

After all questions are weighed, my naswer would be as soon as possible. Who can resist?! biggrin.gif lol.GIF biggrin.gif

I if you had been reading the post about my ph troubles you would know. But here you go.
Is the tank just barely stable or REALLY stable? Still waiting on that but has been at the same ph for 48 hours now.

How did you get it that way? Lots of hard work.

How many new fish are you planning on introducing initially? No more then two.

How many are you aiming for? hummm Not really aiming but will not go over 7 in this tank.

Is the tank large or small ?75 gallons(large take a longer time to go sour on you),

how big are the fish? Doint know have not gone to look at any. Cause I know I would come home with some and need to set up the 10 gallon to put them in for quantine.
How hardy are the fish - have you had them for a while and know there are no other problems to deal with? The three fish in the tank are doing great. I have had them ranging from 5 months to a couple months depending on which ones you are looking at.
And, not to be crass, how valuable are the fish? What the ones I got or the new ones?
The ones I have in the tank are in the range of 6 to 25. Not sure how much the new ones well me have not gone to pet store yet. But I am so dying to go.

Go for it, girl!

Do you know WHY your pH was off and have you solved that to your satisfaction? Can you repeat that solution each and every time you change the water? (I have WEIRD water and it is a struggle, too, so I feel for you!) Get the fish!- There is nothing like a wonderful new fish to inspire you to make that tank pristine!

Your tank (US gallons, not the other?) is plenty big enough that any changes you cause will happen much more slowly than in a 20 gallon so you should be fine.

Realize that when you put your first two fishes in you will get a bump in the cycle. You need to have the tests to watch it and the water to fix it. Prepare for this. (I find myself gathering water about 20 hours a day in prep work!) When that bump is done, you can add more fish. But if there are three there at the store saying "TAKE ME HOME PLEASE!!!!" then I say go for it!

(Do you have fish in the tank already? If so, there should not be a bump, but you should quarantine the new ones elsewhere. By the time they clear quarantine you should have absolutely NO questions about your tank quality - it will be SPLENDID!)

I am sorry that your pH has been so much of a struggle. I have to admit that there was so much info flying around that my head was swimming with the fish! I am glad you have it all straightened out!
