My snails (some more than others) have algea on their shells. I do not clean it off. I probably would if it was REALLY bad, but it is not, so I don't. B)

I got my 3 apple snails from a fish farm, and they were covered in thick algae from being outside in the ponds. I took a soft toothbrush, my usual cleaning tool , and scraped whatever got off easy away, the rest I left alone. Looks so much better now, not perfect, but better...

i tried the toothbrush thing too a while back and it didn't work. i probably wasn't pushing hard enough in fear of breaking his shell.

I have a huge black mystery snail. He was covered in green when I got him. My little ivory snail has climbed on his back and cleaned him up! He actually is black and brown striped. It is cute though...no matter where the big one is ..the little one will find him and climb abord! He has to lug that thing everywhere he goes!!
