hi

i've read plenty on here about feeding things like cucumber, lettuce, oranges etc.

and i was wondering how i'd go about feeding these to the fish?

would i be just putting a slice of cucumber in the tank for example? or is there other ways i should do it?

and what about oranges? how can i feed a piece of orange? won't the juice mess up my water?

thanks unsure.gif

You should attach the fruits and vegetables to a vegetable clip. Most pet shops sell them.

thanks for the info! smile.gif

i'll look for one next time i visit the pet shop (i'm never out of there so it'll probably be tomorrow!)

I feed veggies by cutting them into small strips and dropping a little in the tank for my guys. smile.gif

i cut up my friuts into small pieces
but with the lettuce i just throw the whole leaf in
and pick out the left over after a day
-by then there is only the hard centre left tongue.gif

I cut them into bite size.. so my goldfish can swaloow them easily..

when i feed my fish oranges, i only feed them manderin oranges, the ones you get in the little cups, i eat most of them and leave a wedge or two for the kids. I break it into thirds or quarters and drop it in the tank. unfortunatly, if you put too much orange in there, it takes awhile for them to eat it and you almost immediately have to scrub the tank down. otherwise i wait a day or two and then i brush the walls of my tank down with a toothbrush and then i do a 25% water change.

Personally, my fish LOVE the orange, it is one of the only things they will eat that i feed them that i can eat too. but i can tell you its so cool to watch them fight over it!! rofl3.gif

hi hi

you can use a piece of non-flexible airline tube and a suction cup
or any type of plastic skewer that will fit

i use a plastic chopstick, skewer the veggies, suction it to the bottom of the tank,(so it stands upright) and let my fish nibble as wanted.

if you put the fresh greens on first, then a chunk of zucchini or other, the leaves wont float up smile.gif

Yup, and peas are easy. They sink and they don't require but skinning and a little bit of cutting. Also, it isn't too hard to keep them from being messy. You just have to get the hang of it! smile.gif

I've recently started feeding my baby seedless grapes. She LOVES them!

I rinse them in cold water, peel the skin off, then slice lengthwise into quarters.

grapes! what a great idea! i'll have to do that! i'm trying to get rid of my dried foods now and i'm not buying much more. maybe daphnia and sinking pellets, but that's it. my guys are going to get more fresh foods and frozen foods from then on. but it'll take a while to get ridof the stock i currently have lol
i slice an orange into a wedge and just throw it in. usually it's gone in a few hours and then i just remove the peel. my fish don't eat lettuce, they just leave it rot...which i never thought of this until just now, that probably means they will not eat live plants....hmmmmmmmmmm.....
anyway, i was wondering how to feed them apples and pasta...any suggestions?
slipperylittlesucker
apples may be too hard for them
if you want to try it you need to peel the skin
and chop it finely into small pieces
you should try pasta martinez
because they have problems digesting carbohydrates
try to stick to soft fruits - you can't go wrong smile.gif
watermelon, rockmelon and cherries are also worth a try wink.gif

Not sure about those, but peas work good- lightly warm peel of outer shell/skin, mush up and feed to the fish, they eat them like candy

yep! just mush the lil grapes and just drop it into the tank! I already tried apples, oranges and bananas. They didn't like watermelons that much tho. Some of my friends told me that I'm gross coz I sometimes feed my gf's like a bird! If I'm too tired to chop up the fruits, I'll just take a bit off em and drop it into the tank! lol.GIF

Mine love the peas. I have never tried fruit before, though -- I will have to try that.

If you want to feed a regular orange, the best thing to do is cut a skinny slice. Not the wedges we all got in elementary school, but a slice like you'd make of a tomato for a sandwhich, or something like that.

I've found this stays in a veggie clip fairly easily [it's not too thick], and the orange is stationary, so the fish can come up, pull off a small chunk, go away and chew it, come back when they want more...I've found that when they have to chase the food over the tank, they never seem to get most of it--it gets stuck in the corners where they can't reach it, that kind of thing. This way, I can see how much they've ate, and it's really easy to simply pull out the veggie clip.
