I've just changed to feeding my Golds in the morning. They seem to be less hyper in the evening this way. Anyone else have this experience?

i feed mine 2 times a day as well. but it would make sence that they would have less energy at night if fed in the morning. they would havew burned moast of it off already right?

Yep, that in conjunction with the lower oxygen levels at night seems to be a factor. Wow, that was a really geeky statement!

So here is a story for you....just noticed the proximity of your fishtank to you laptop.
Just a (not so) funny story about the expense of fish.
This is a fairly new hobby for me, and as a new hobby I tend to obsess a bit. I was doing my secondly weekly (50%) water change on the tank----oh did I mention my (1.5 year old laptop was sitting open and on right next to the tank)----when the water I was pouring in went over the lip of the aquarium and on to my $1600 laptop. So, some people just think there goldfish are expensive. Mine cost me over $2000 on the first two weeks. Talk about some expensive fish.

I feed mine in the morning. your right, they are not as hyper in the evening if you feed in the morning. I usually feed when I get home from work actually at about noon really, but sometimes earlier before I leave at 8. Then by the time I go to bed at midnight they are all asleep, instead of begging for food.

B) I feed my goldies twice a day too! An amount for food they can finish in about 3 minutes!

I feed my fish in the afternoons at about 3 pm. This seems to work well for all (in both tanks). I've never noticed my fish being hyper at night--but they always are first thing in the morning--that's typically when my boy fishies get "randy" and chase poor Mushupork around the tank.

BTW - for those of you feeding twice a day, hopefully those are babies or adolescents. Adults need less food intake.
mjm579, ouch! I here ya. I have since moved the desk and tank. Some day I'm going to develop an automatic water change system, more like a perpetual trickle/drain system. With it hooked up to a water line, there'll be no need for buckets or siphons. Until then... I keep a close watch on computers and important documents. Thanks for the warning!

i feed mine once a day in the evenings. i do it at the same time as i feed my dog. i used to feed them twice a day but i learned that you shouldnt really. theyre just as happy being fed once a day. theyre just less sluggish now.

i feed all of my
growing goldfish twice a day. once at 6am and once at 5pm (before and after work). i give them treats every other day as well. as far as their regular food goes, i try to switch it up between pellets/flakes/veggies. you should see my comet rip at a peice of cooked broccoli (clipped at the water surface). he acts just like a shark! tugging at it from side to side............

twice a day with flakes.
i haven't started experimenting with different foods yet, i'm waiting till i get low on flakes and am going to buy more, and while i'm doing that i'll get some other foods. I've half empty now, so next week or the week after i'll start with frozen foods and such.

definitely both
i just feel that once is too little
they're always come to the surface of the water everytime i walk by
i always give in to the temptation to feed them more and more
