After the not so great luck with my guppies and the half eaten plants in the 20 gl goldies tank, I decided to make a tropicals tank out of the 29 gl. Got a dozen plants or so, including the Java moss that I already have growing nicely on an ornament, Anacharis, Cabomba, ALuminum plant, Purple Waffle, and something called Siamese....?., plus the plant bulbs that start to grow so nicely now....
In the last few days the new inhabitants came in - a pair of black/red swordtails, a pair of albinoe lyre? tails, and a pair of Peacock dwarf Gourami. The latter ones are particularly beautiful, peach and blue/teal stripes, and still a bit on the shy side.
I will order the plant substrate tomorrow, as well as the Flourish excel, and Petsupermarket gets new plants in tomorrow....
Boy, this is so much fun to watch. You know what the best part is - the plants are still there the next morning!! rofl3.gif

That's great Ranchugirl. Planted tanks open a whole new world in aquariums. After the initial algae wars and settling in period the tank takes on a mature natural look that is so beautiful. It's really great when your plants start to send up flowers.

Sounds great, ive just done the same thing, although some of your plants are non aquatic. The aluminium plant will drop its leaves and slowly rot. The purple Waffle also will do well for a couple of weeks and then die. LFS should not be selling these plants, they dont belong in water. I also tried them and there is nothing left of them. The cabomba is excellent as are a lot of AQUATIC plants. Goodluck and beware biggrin.gif
