How do I sterilize my hospital tank including plants, airstone, and heater after my fishy has passed? I don't want to make anyone else ill. Thanks!

I don't know how to sterilize live plants without killing them, or how to sterilize a tank without completely shutting it down for a while. But the following works for plastic plants, air lines, heaters, and tanks. (I'd just throw away the airstone.)

Drain everything, and use plenty of non-iodized salt to scour the surfaces to remove any built-up meds, slime, algae, whatever. Rinse well.

Spritz or soak everything with 10% chlorine bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water), keeping all surfaces wet for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse well. Allow to dry COMPLETELY, preferably in sunlight. Bleach will leave no harmful residue if it dries completely.

It's best to use bleach outside and to wear gloves. The fumes can be harmful to you and your aquariums.
