What is a wens? Ive seen that word used in here. Lol yea I'm stupid idk.

No no, not stupid!! When I picked my Oranda out of the tank at the pet store, I happily announced that I would like the one with the bump on his noggin!!

A wen is the headgrowth some types of fish have. The pet store manager quickly informed me of this while trying very hard not to laugh at me.

i find it really offending when people

some of them have smaller and some bigger.

The head growth that Lionheads, Ranchu's and Oranda's get is called a Wen.

If you go to the photo forum and look at Kokos pictures of Mr. T you will see a very big wen.

Heck, I didn't even know that these kinda fish had headgrowths. Scared me silly when it started. Thought the fish had a brain tumah!

at first i didnt know wat a wen was, until i came into this great forum called kokosgoldfish, that's where i found out more about goldfishes

I didnt know what "Wen" meant either, but now I know. I've always referred to it as "Head Growth" but "Wen" is a much better term for it. I will use it from now on

LOL. my husband always calls it their "brain". My new fish is all black on top, so I call it his "afro".

That's really cute! I love the afro thing! One of my orandas has an aftro too. I can't wait till tell my boyfriend that, he'll get a kick out of that!

I heard some kids in the LFS laughing at the "brain fish" once.

Orandas are my favorite!!! I have 3 of 'em.

My little chocolate oranda is starting to grow a wen-- I missed the boat naming him-- should have called him Bob Ross. Maybe next time!

My mom is only now catching on to the different fancy goldfish names. Before she knew that they were called 'Orandas', she called them 'the brain fish.'

This is how a lot of pet store conversations between the two of us would sound:
Me: Ahh! Look at the wen on that calico Oranda!
Her:What?
Me: The brain on the brain fish.
Her:Ohhh!

She knows what Orandas are now, but we still like to call them 'Brain Fish' just for kicks.

Mr.T doesnt see very well but he eats like a horse. Hes a very gentle fish and will come and sit in your hand when your cleaning the tank out.....
